    Eng 537

Amit Mishra has got a big plate full of food - plenty of rice on there. That's a man with a healthy appetite. He also has the relaxed air of a man who knows he won't need to bat for a long, long time.

Adil Rashid is out of the attack after just three overs post-lunch, replaced by the only wicket-taker, Stuart Broad. It's the first time England have used a pace bowler from this end and he starts with a maiden.

Just the 16 runs from the eight overs so far in the afternoon session.

  2. Ind 178-1published at 57 overs

    Trail by 359

It's all very becalmed in Rajkot, barely a sound from the sparse crowd, not much chatter amongst the England team. A cut brings a couple to Pujara.

It seems strange to be worried when England have 537 on the board, but India are in good form and recent history suggests they can get up to England's total by tomorrow. That would shift the pressure back on to England.

  4. Ind 176-1published at 56 overs

    Vijay 63 Pujara 70

If you're just waking up, England had the perfect start to the day with Stuart Broad marking his 100th Test with a wicket in the second over, trapping Gautam Gambhir plumb in front.

Since then, however, it's been steady progress from Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara who have taken their partnership to 108 and offered not even the sniff of a chance.

Two more from that Rashid over as India continue to tick over.

  5. Ind 174-1published at 55 overs

    Eng 537

Woakes continuing and not offering much to the Indians, just 26 from his first 14 overs. A rare appeal as it smacks into Vijay's pad - it deflected onto bat, back onto pad and wasn't too far away from dropping onto the stumps.

    Favourite fast bowlers on #bbccricket

Tim: Best fast bowler: Michael Holding 1976 incredibly smooth run up - whispering death

Rachel: Watching Joel Garner gave me nightmares as a kid. Have never seen anyone exude as much menace.

  7. Ind 171-1published at 54 overs

    Vijay 59, Pujara 69

That's the 100 partnership, a fine glance for four from Pujara off Rashid bringing up the landmark.

How's this for a contrast - Rashid's average in the first innings of a Test is a rather substantial 136 but only 31 in the second knock. That might explain why Alastair Cook hasn't given him much of a bowl until now.

  8. Ind 167-1published at 53 overs

    Trail by 370 runs

Woakes bangs it in but Vijay ducks safely underneath it, looking much more secure with the bouncer than Pujara. Vijay is looking very studious between deliveries, practising defensive strokes on the back foot. The partnership on 99.

We saw more reverse swing from the India bowlers than we have from England's, and England pride themselves on the ability to reverse it. Yadav and Shami were reversing at this stage, but I haven't seen anything. The only threat we have seen has been from Woakes' bounce, which has hit Pujara three times.

  10. Ind 167-1published at 52 overs

    Vijay 59 Pujara 65

Rashid is given his chance. A bit short to begin with and India pick up a couple more singles. No sign of his googly in that over.

A single each to Pujara and Vijay with Woakes short of a length. One gets up a little and smacks Pujara in the glove, who manages to fend it off and scamper through for another single. Looked a little uncomfortable again though.

  13. Ind 162-1published at 06:42

    Vijay 57, Pujara 62

Vijay and Pujara stepped on the accelerator in the last 20 minutes or so of the session, with Ben Stokes especially getting some tap in his four overs. It is all set up for Indian batsmen to press on this afternoon but they still face a deficit of 375. A lot of runs still to play with for England.

Time for resumption. Woakes has the ball in hand...

Thanks very much, Jamie. So let's see if England can make further inroads. It was a fantastic start to the day with Stuart Broad trapping Gautam Gambhir in the second over of the day, but there was not much doing thereafter.

There were some good signs from Adil Rashid just before lunch, though. Strange that the leggie wasn't given more than two overs in that session.

    Favourite fast bowlers on #bbccricket

Tom Halstead: Best fast bowlers I've seen: McGrath and Marshall. But for pure frightening pace: Donald, Akhtar, Ambrose, Lee and Younis.

Sid Dodia: Mitchell Johnson by far the best I have seen in last 10 years particularly his Ashes performance, brutal and ripped England apart.

Abdullah Mahmood: Favourite paceman - has to be Dale Steyn for me though as a kid I was a huge fan of Allan Donald and Wasim Akram.

Sachin Mainkar: In recent times, Allan Donald and even more recently Hoggard and Harmison from the famous 2005 Ashes. Also like Shane Bond.

  17. Stokes 'now a genuine batsman'published at 06:30 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2016

In case you missed it, Aggers did a column for us yesterday in which he praised the batting of Ben Stokes.

The BBC cricket correspondent wrote: "Ben Stokes is entering virtually unique territory for an England cricketer in that he is as much of a batsman as a bowler.

"Ian Botham is widely regarded as England's greatest all-rounder, but his main strength was his bowling. Stokes is getting to the stage where he really is a genuine batsman."

Mike Bell: Current Mrs B away at moment, which puts me in charge of Gibson (the cat). Decided not to feed her until England take a wicket.

Graham Roberts: Does waiting for a blood test in Barcelona get me a mention? Could do with a couple of wickets to get the numbers up!
