Moeen, who went for 50 runs from his 11 overs yesterday, will replace Jimmy. The first ball brings a yelp from behind the stumps as it goes straight past Ashwin's defence. The third, however, is a rubbish full toss that Ashwin thumps towards mid-off for a couple, before a misfield adds another to the total.

Zafar Ansari is off the field feeling nauseous. He's being assessed by the England medical team.
Broad will continue. He's found the bounce that Anderson hasn't this morning, as a delivery skids over Ashwin's attempted waft. He can't keep it to a maiden, though, as Ashwin works a single away. Broad has a wry grin at the umpire while Moeen loosens up in the background.

This is a great field setting. One of the best bowlers in the world, bowling well with a new ball - one slip. Great.
Ashwin edges Anderson through fourth slip to get Kohli on strike, before Kohli pushes a drive straight through a diving Broad at mid-on. That looks to have done Broad's wrist another mischief. Stokes does well to cut off another angled push from Kohli as the schoolkids offer up some encouragement.

At the start of the series, Ashwin looked a bit high at number six, but he's played splendidly so far.

Look at this for a field. They have got no one from cover to first slip. It's such a strange start. I hate to keep going on about it, but these are the sort of fields you should go to in an hour. Don't just gift away easy runs. Test cricket is about psychology, trying to con the batsmen that things are happening when they're not.
Shot. Kohli stamps a foot down the wicket, opens the bat and drives Broad for four. Broad stands and stares, then looks even more unimpressed as Kohli drops his hands and jogs a simple single. The field is set so deep. There's a minor victory for England, though, as they persuade the umpire to change the ball. Ashwin promptly taps it into the off-side for a single.

There are a lot of England supporters - credit to them for coming. A badge of honour and they're enjoying it. It's a nice stadium and these grounds are so much better than the 80s and 90s - they've comfortable seats, the facilities are better, and you can even bring some water in...

Anderson, switching to cutters, gets Ashwin driving and the ball flies off the edge towards Duckett at point. There's plenty of din from the crowd, which has plenty of schoolkids in again. Ashwin sees out the rest of the over, only playing if he has to.

Forget declarations, India will just bat, getting their runs in the first innings. They will expect this pitch to deteriorate.
Broad continues with the off-stump line before chucking in a bouncer that whistles in to Kohli at head height. Kohli, with the confidence of a man who knows there's a bagful of runs in this pitch, pulls it down towards Ansari in the deep, who tidies up. Broad pulls his line back, keeping it short, but Ashwin pats the rest of the over away.

England have gone so defensive. If you're batting at the start of the second day and you see a field like this, it gives you confidence. Ashwin must be thinking they fear him. He hasn't suddenly turned into Sachin Tendulkar, has he?
Anderson continues and Kohli meets everything with a straight bat. The two trade a couple of singles before Kohli unfurls a glorious cover drive that goes straight through a diving Stokes' hands. Stokes plonks himself down and looks annoyed as Jimmy wanders away to the umpire.

Yesterday England started with three slips and a gully and they had India 22-2. You wouldn't start bowling to an opening batsman with this field, let alone a number six. It doesn't make sense.
There's just a small window of opportunity with the new ball when you have to gamble - just for a few overs. Plan A is orthodox, with men catching, then you go back to plan B.

Just for a moment the slips were interested. Ashwin won't die wondering but he was in no position for that.
Stuart Broad, who was hobbling about yesterday, will share opening duties with Jimmy. There's a long meeting between Broad, Anderson and Cook about fields and such. It looks as though Broad's going to target the off stump and limit India's scoring as much as possible. The last ball is short, and Ashwin attempts a pull. He's late on it but gets enough of a top edge on it to see it land safely.
