    Rahane c Cook b Broad 26 (Ind 117-4)

That's a double edged sword of a wicket. Stuart Broad gets one to hit a crack and the ball rises, hitting Ajinkya Rahane's glove as he tries to withdraw his shot and balloons to Alastair Cook at slip. Good news for England's bowlers, maybe less so for England's batsmen.

  3. Ind 115-3published at 38 overs

    Lead by 315

James Anderson continues and Ajinkya Rahane runs a delivery down to third man for a single, bringing about another great roar from the crowd. He then attempts a short ball that bounces twice before it gets to Jonny Bairstow. Virat Kohli ignores it and Anderson flicks the ball away in disgust.

I think it's pretty clear that Broad won't be playing in the next Test.

  5. Ind 114-3published at 37 overs

    Kohli 69, Rahane 24

Shot! Gorgeous from Virat Kohli. He drives Stuart Broad down to the boundary, showing the full face of the bat. He's been busy at the crease this morning, bustling around, pushing Ajinkya Rahane to run hard. There's a solitary slip in for Rahane, who nabs a single from the final delivery.

Overthrows are much more common now because they throw the ball at the stumps so often. It makes you look more alert but it's going to cost you runs. We've had at least three lots of overthrows in this match.

  7. Ind 108-3published at 36 overs

    Lead by 308

That lbw shout against Kohli would indeed have missed, and missed by some way. The India captain charges down the wicket like a man on a mission as he clips Anderson away for a single. Five overthrows round off the over as Stokes sends the ball sailing past the stumps. Everyone looks accusingly at one another.

You'd think the seamers might be the men today - the one that scuttles is the danger.

  9. Kohli not out on 58published at 35.1 overs

    Ind 101-3

James Anderson will take the next over, after a long chat with Stuart Broad. He's hit Virat Kohli on the pad first up and there's a vociferous appeal. Going down, by the looks of things.

It's not the type of field Michael and Geoffrey after - there's a slip, a deep gully, a deep point, deep square and long leg. There's a defensive look about it.

  11. Ind 100-3published at 35 overs

    Lead by 300

Virat Kohli is on strike and Alastair Cook, for the first over of the day, has got one close catcher. One. You wish he'd start more aggressively. Stuart Broad comes hammering in, all focus on that right foot, where he's strained a tendon. It doesn't stop him whacking down a short ball that rises up sharply, and Kohli wanders down to do some gardening.

India have just got to bat till lunch. Virat Kohli is a class apart. He's the only one who's looked in control. If you're picking a world XI he's in it. He's one of the top five or six batsmen in the world - simple.

India bat somewhere short of tea - I think they'll want for somewhere between 450 and 500. England's policy is to slow them down. They should be positive - try to get Kohli and Ashwin out.

I still don't know if England know what style of cricket they want to play - what type of team they're trying to become. I'm saying, 'what is your identity?'

The players are out there. Virat's shadow batting, Alastair Cook is clapping his hands, the umpires are examining the footholes. It looks considerably warmer there than it is here, where I'm sat indoors with four layers on.

That's up to the captain - and Alastair Cook is a cautious captain.

What I want to see from England is to send a message to the Indian batsmen that they want to get them out. If England are to have any chance of winning - and it's only 3 or 4% - they need to get seven wickets in this session.

For the first 20 minutes England have to squeeze Kohli and Rahane. You want Kohli on strike to get him out. Go after him.

  18. England 'still fighting' in Vizagpublished at 03:54 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2016

England fans had their hearts in their mouths yesterday after Jonny Bairstow took a tumble running out to bat, injuring his knee.

However, he recovered to score 53 as England finished their first innings on 255, and Bairstow reckons England still have a chance in this match.

"We have batted for long periods of time in these conditions previously, so there's no reason why we can't do that on day four and five," he told Test Match Special.

"The way that Virat played shows that there are runs to be scored."
