The pitch looks worse than it was. Half of batting is in the mind - you have to believe you have a good enough defence on these pitches. Once England get the slide on, they can't stop it.

There are positives for England: Hameed's battle on the fourth day, Broad's performance on one foot, an increasingly confident Rashid starting to bowl more consistently. But there has to be serious questions over Duckett's place. The collapse on day two is what has cost them the most.

They have a habit of collapsing. They go down like a pack of cards, like dominoes - call it what you want. This pitch is not a minefield.

Anderson has registered the first king pair for England since 1906, and only the third ever.

Debutant Jayant Yadav finishes with match figures of 4-68 with the ball, and it was his performance with the bat that tipped India over the 400 line. Ashwin ends the game with eight wickets; he was slightly off yesterday but today, he was bang on. A word for Mohammed Shami too, who has bowled with excellent pace throughout the Test.

England have been outplayed and ultimately lost it on the second evening when all those wickets fell. Days one and two lost us the game. The crumble on the second day was the main reason for the loss of this Test.

Michael Bairstow: Apt that a king pair finishes off England. Weak, spineless, clueless and gutless. Can't see us improving this series.

England have fought hard throughout this Test but that collapse on the second day has cost them. They've lost all ten wickets in this innings for 83 runs. Cook's dismissal last night was the real kicker, the one that England couldn't recover from. It was always going to be an uphill struggle but it was a quick end for England.

It was a lovely off-break; he pushed forward. It's either out or four byes.

Have Jayant got Anderson lbw first ball? It looks out and India want a review.

I don't think Jimmy is in the best of form. He's on a king pair - he only faced one ball in the first innings and he hasn't had a hit in the middle since August.

    WICKETpublished at 97.2 overs

Broad lbw Jayant 5 (Eng 158-9)

Hit flush on the front foot. That's going on to hit the top of off stump. Broad will have to go. Out walks Anderson for his second bat in four months.

  17. England reviewpublished at 97.2 overs

Broad's been given out lbw, going for the sweep. There's a delay, but it's Broad - he's made the T sign.

  18. How's stat?!published at 06:56 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2016

The dismissal of Ansari means Ashwin is the leading wicket-taker in Test cricket in 2016, moving past Sri Lanka's Rangana Herath with 55. Ashwin was also the leading wicket-taker last year with 62.

  19. Eng 154-8published at 97 overs

    Bairstow 34, Broad 1

The sweep has served Bairstow well today. He's down on one knee again, twisting those wrists and smashing Ashwin for four. It's good to see him rotating the strike. Clever, too, playing the shot all along the ground. Broad has one delivery to face from Ashwin and takes a single from a thick inside edge.

The toss has been a huge factor in this match. Is there a case for alternating the choice after the first Test in a series? Not sour grapes at the moment of course!
