England have lost three wickets for 28 runs this morning. That was a lovely delivery from Yadav, tricking Stokes into playing back and then the ball turned enough to hit the off stump. Stokes swung his bat in annoyance as he left the field.

It's a good ball. It's spun and clipped the off stump having pitched about middle. A lot of the England batsmen have been playing off the back foot - Stokes did it here and it cost him. The problem with being ultra passive is that it gives confidence to the bowler.

Gone! Stokes is out! And it's a beauty one from Jayant to get rid of him. It's spun to clip the top of off stump, the bail falling gently to the ground as Stokes closes his eyes in resignation. Fielders and crowd go crackers as one.

I admire England's third men, who are bringing stuff onto the field at every opportunity. Double change ahoy. Mohammed Shami is going to have a burst with the new ball. Stokes works him off his pads for a single. There's nothing alarming there for the England batsmen to deal with.

A change! Jayant Yadav is into the attack. Root plays him so deeply from his crease he might as well be perched on the stumps. Jayant tests out a few different lengths and Root senses an opportunity, pulling a short ball but only to the fielder. The over ends with another low ball that finds the toe of Root's bat.

Ashwin has his hands on his head as Stokes gets right over a delivery. He floats one up, trying to tempt Stokes into something daft. Stokes is having none of it. He pays it gently, and very deliberately, away to Jadeja.

There's a gentle soundtrack of ooh's and aah's from the fielders now. Both batsmen have four men around the bat. Jadeja fires through another over, twice finding a leading edge from Root, but it's played with soft hands and the ball trickles along to safety.

It would almost be for Duckett's own good to withdraw him. I'm sure he'll be back, but I doubt he'll play in the next Test.

    Stokes 3, Root 25

Stokes considers hitting Ashwin over the top, but changes his mind and ends up placing the ball safely along the ground. He gets forward to every delivery, but the last one keeps low again and Stokes just about gets some bat on it.

Ashwin has a new, shiny cherry in his hand. More importantly, India have two brand new reviews to play with.

If you're just joining us, I'd stay under that duvet. England have lost two wickets this morning; Duckett, sweeping an Ashwin long hop and being caught at short leg for a duck, and Moeen, edging Jadeja's bouncier delivery behind. At the rate India are whizzing through these overs, it's going to be a long day.

Root is such a busy player. He pushes Stokes to add an extra couple to the total as Jadeja strays too far onto leg stump. Jadeja looks less than impressed at his compatriot's fielding efforts. And on come the drinks.

The tour party was selected strangely. Gary Ballance is the reserve batsman, but he's left-handed and not in form. The leaves Jos Buttler, who is really the reserve wicketkeeper and has played no cricket either. There's no harm in adding someone. I'd go with someone like Sam Billings.

Kohli is off the pitch, having a chat with coach Anil Kumble. It looks pretty intense. I'd assume it's about the new ball, which is due shortly. Ashwin ends the over with a yorker length delivery that Stokes jabs his bat on in time.

Stokes gets off the mark as he works Jadeja into the off side, before Root inside edges into his pad. Square leg takes the catch, leading to ooh's all around from the fielders. Root, unruffled, wanders down the pitch for a chat with Stokes.

England have got too many left-handers. To put Duckett at number four was such an ask.
