India are cracking through these overs. Blink and you'll miss it. Ashwin mixes his speeds up to Root, going slow before fizzing in the last two. Root's equal to it. This is where the contest is today. Still, only 300 more for England to get...

Stokes has played two mature innings on this tour so far. He's no different at the minute, showing nothing but the middle of the bat to Jadeja. The crowd, growing slowly but steadily, ramp up the noise as Jadeja rounds off another maiden.

Jadeja's not been on the mark this morning but that was set up nicely. All through the over he was targeting that rough and Moeen was mostly playing with the edge of the bat. That's a shot from Root, driving Ashwin with a flourish through the covers. His reward is a nasty delivery that he edges up into his ribs.

It's just a little wider, hitting the edge of the footholes. It's spat and bounced at Moeen. A million times out of a million Kohli will take that catch.

Bounce. That's what's done for Moeen. Jadeja gets one to rear out of the rough and Moeen gets an inside edge that loops up. Kohli, hovering at short leg, won't spill that one. Off Moeen must trundle, replaced by Ben Stokes.

Gorgeous from Ashwin, tempting Root to drive and drifting one past his outside edge. Saha whips the bails off but the umpire is unmoved. Ashwin whirls through another over, Root trying to drive the final ball to the boundary, but Jadeja fields well at mid wicket to keep it to a maiden. Pressure.

England needed 69.3 overs for their 100, their slowest since the Test against West Indies at Port of Spain in 1974.

India are whizzing through their overs. Jadeja's jogging back to his mark, trying to force England to face as many balls as possible. Root's spending a fair bit of time gardening and shadow batting, but it's going to take more than that.

Andrew Reyes: Drop Duckett for the 3rd Test and play Buttler. Bat Ali at 4, Bairstow 5, Stokes 6, Buttler 7.

Paul Hawkins: Ben Duckett falls for a duck. In other news, sun rises in east.

Duckett looked so uncomfortable against Ashwin. That first innings dismissal has to have been playing in his mind. He was caught between attack and defence the second Ashwin was brought on. It wasn't as though Ashwin out thought him in this innings, either; it was a long hop that Duckett gloved up to the keeper, trying to sweep.

    Moeen 2, Root 16

Moeen guides Jadeja away for a single, and that will be England's 100. It was uncomfortable last night and it's been the same this morning. It's keeping low. Ashwin is the main threat, given the turn he's got this morning. Jadeja hasn't quite got his lines right yet.

It's all happening. This is the pressure of the game. India are on the attack and the odd ball is spitting.

Is Buttler the answer? I don't know but this is a real test of concentration for the men at the crease. Ashwin gets down on one knee, pleading with the umpire to give Moeen out as he spins one into the pads. That might just have been sliding down, but close. Horribly, uncomfortably close.

Big fan of Duckett but he's gone right now - get Buttler in.

    Moeen 1, Root 15

Moeen's got four men up in his grille, but there's not much turn from Jadeja. A couple bounce awkwardly, but Moeen navigates them well. More on the Root review - the third umpire said the noise happened after the ball passed the bat. Root seemed sure he hadn't hit it.

I'd be mortified I was given out for that. It wasn't enough for someone to be given out. That's a correct decision.

Root cover drives Ashwin for four, adding insult to injury, but then he goes right back into his crease and he's beaten by a belter. It just whistles past the outside edge, and Root decides getting forward is the best way to go.
