  1. Root not outpublished at 66.1 overs

    Eng 93-3

There is the tiniest of marks on Snicko. A flicker. That's not enough for the third umpire and he overturns the decision. Root survives.

  4. England reviewpublished at 66.1 overs

Here we go. Root's been given out, edging Ashwin behind, but the T sign is straight up.

  5. Eng 93-3published at 66 overs

Moeen joins Root at the crease and gets to face a full over of Jadeja. It's all negotiated safely until the last ball, which leads to a long appeal for an lbw. It was far too high, although umpire Dharmasena takes a while to decide.

It's a mind game. Duckett has talent, but he's anxious and tense. That's short of a length, but he's playing the shot too quickly. You have to keep a cool mind. At the moment, there's too much pressure, he's too tense. It's got to him. They need to fins someone else for the next Test. That doesn't mean his career is over, but he needs a break.

    Target 405

The replay of Duckett's wicket gets worse every time you see it. It was a long hop and he's just gloved it up to the keeper. He doesn't trust his defence so he's tried to go on the attack, and the result is an awful dismissal.

That's a really, really horrible dismissal. He could have hit it for four or six. It was a poor ball. Playing for Northants, Duckett would have hit it out of the ground.

    Duckett c Saha b Ashwin 0 (Eng 92-3)

Ugh. Duckett has got himself out in horrible fashion. He wanted to take Ashwin on but he's messed up there. It was short, had nothing going for it, Duckett tried to sweep and up it popped towards the keeper.

That's a straightforward catch - just above knee height to his right. Kohli is so excitable, he's stood up early. He's really up for the challenge - but you need a cool mind. He's too busy thinking of everything else.

  11. Eng 92-2published at 64 overs

Kohli's got a face like thunder. You'd back him to grab that. Jadeja beseeches the umpire to give Root out, striking him low on the pad, but there's nothing doing. He drops short and Root can drive it away up the field, but that ball isn't getting up much.

For someone fielding in that position, that should have been caught. It was a lovely height.

  13. dropped catch

Kohli drops Root on 9published at 63 overs

    Eng 92-2

Panic stations, England fans. It's turning. Ashwin beats Root's outside edge with two lovely ones, leaving Root prodding at the pitch. Is that a drop? It is, Kohli's dropped Root. He tried to turn it off his pads, it went to Kohli at leg slip and he couldn't cling on with his right hand.

  14. Eng 91-2published at 62 overs

    Target 405

The pitch looks great from a spectator's point of view. Probably less so for a batsman. Especially if that batsman is Duckett, who got played to perfection in the first innings by Ashwin. He doesn't look confident here, coming down the pitch to Jadeja but only padding the ball away. Jadeja mixes up his line and Duckett goes back into his crease.

  16. Eng 91-2published at 61 overs

    Root 9, Duckett 0

And here he is, Ravichandran Ashwin. Kohli makes a big show of lining up a marginal lbw shout against Root, but it's the batsman that has the last laugh. Short, pulled away, four. No danger in that shot, it was all along the ground.

I'm interested to see how Duckett plays. Wondering how to play Ashwin has probably kept him up all night...

  18. Eng 87-2published at 60 overs

If it rains, Skye, I'll eat my hat. Kohli starts the day off with a bit of psychological wizardry as he tinkers with his field, keeping Duckett waiting for an age. Jadeja whizzes through the over he started last night, with Duckett turning everything away from that rough.

Joe Root and Ben Duckett are on their way out to the middle. What are they saying to themselves? Block it. Leave it. Don't do anything daft. Virat Kohli leads his side in an animated team talk, before they go racing out to the middle.
