    Ashwin 33, Jadeja 5

Anderson time. He's hiding the ball all the way as he runs in to Jadeja, and he spares the batsman a disapproving frown as his first ball just misses the outside edge. Anderson spears some filth down the leg side that Bairstow does well to stop, before he returns to bowling straight at the pads.

Moeen fires through another over, which India navigate with ease through the haze that's settled over the ground. Ashwin isn't having the best time out there. He can run, but it's a laborious process. Just the one from the over.

Ashwin has just passed 500 Test runs in 2016. He is only the second Indian to score 500 runs and take 50 wickets in a calendar year. Kapil Dev did it twice, in 1979 and 1983.

  4. Ind 219-6published at 69 overs

    Ashwin 33, Jadeja 4

Ashwin is having a bit of trouble running between the wickets. It's not quite a limp but he doesn't look comfortable. A full on dive to reach the crease after Jadeja calls him for a quick single dose not help matters, or improve his mood. He keeps his back firmly to Jadeja and chunters to himself, before finally getting to his feet and bumping fists with his partner. A boundary, sliding off the face of the bat, should make him feel better.

The game is moving on, but it's pretty tense at the moment.

  7. India 211-6published at 68 overs

Bit too short that, Moeen, and Jadeja slaps it through mid-wicket for a couple. We're going to have a change of ball, after it failed the hoop test that the umpires put it through. Root, very much England's chief polisher, has a good long look at the new ball before throwing it to Moeen.

Time for drinks and a chance for Cook to get the players together and have a quick word. Bairstow and Stokes have a long chat, before Moeen gets ready to resume.

Stokes' dismissal of Kohli was the first time he has been out to a seamer in six innings. He had scored 282 runs against seamers in between.

You'd have England as favourites at this stage...

  12. Ind 208-6published at 67 overs

Jadeja gets off the mark with a top edge that briefly has a back pedaling third slip interested. Stokes must be tiring now. Half of his deliveries slide down the leg side and he looks absolutely puffed as he takes his cap back from the umpire. It might be worth a quick burst of Anderson.

  13. Ind 205-6published at 66 overs

    Ashwin 23, Jadeja 0

Rashid will take a well earned break after a 14 over spell that brought about two wickets, with Moeen coming on for a twirl. England are properly up for this now. Anderson pulls off a fine sliding stop and hammers the ball back in, splattering the stumps, but Jadeja was home by some distance.

That is 67 dismissals for the year by Bairstow, equalling the records of Ian Healy in 1993 and Mark Boucher in 1998. He's already got the most runs by a wicketkeeper in a calendar year.

  15. Ind 204-6published at 65 overs

That was a proper effort ball from Stokes, drawing Kohli into the stroke. He's faced with Jadeja now and keeps things straight to keep the pressure on.

It's that off-stump line. Stokes was absolutely thrilled with it. There was no communication between bowler and batsman. It's a huge wicket for England. This partnership was getting out of hand, but Stokes has the ability to make something happen.

That's the big one for England! Kohli's gone! Every bit of energy Ben Stokes had left was put into that delivery. Kohli was trying to guide the ball through third man, got a tiny edge and Bairstow gratefully snapped it up. Stokes raises his arms before turning away from Kohli and hiding his mouth, lest he get another fine.

  19. Ind 199-5published at 64 overs

I suspect Stokes might have to take a little breather. His face is postbox red, sweat dripping down his face. Rashid tosses the ball up invitingly for Kohli, who smashes the ball into the covers, but he'll only pick up a single.

  20. Ind 195-5published at 63 overs

Stokes carries on and India work a couple of singles,  just as the shadows from the floodlights start to creep onto the pitch. It's been a long day for England, although this last session will have given them some cheer.
