We might be learning why Gareth Batty was not seen for the best part of 50 overs. He's going at more than eight an over here.

The runs have started to flow while England have the spinners on. It doesn't have to be the worst ball in the world to hit for four, but that was bad. I think it's because he's trying to bowl quicker.

Outstanding. At the end of the over, Kohli took his gloves on and began to march off. Marais Erasmus called him back and pointed to his watch. Kohli can't believe it. He's never not got his own way before.

Pujara's half-century came from 100 balls with eight boundaries. It is his sixth fifty against England. He's converted four of them into centuries.
Rashid continues to earn respect from Kohli, who is only playing a stroke when necessary. Very ominous for England. Kohli looks like a man with nothing to do over the next day other than bat. The skipper drags it out, hoping this will be the last one before tea.

England's first innings is looking more and more pathetic with every passing over. It's simply not possible to win test matches on pitches like this with that as a first innings score.

This fella is a run machine. Two hundreds in the series, now a half-century made with the minimum off fuss. Given his stellar form four years ago, I wonder if England dislike Cheteshwar Pujara even more than they do Virat Kohli. Ten off Batty's over. No pressure, too many gaps.

James Fletcher: Looking at updates on the BBC app on the beach in Goa. Gareth Batty is DJ'ing.

Jonny Bairstow, emboldened by asking for a correct review earlier on, twice appeals when Kohli meets Rashid with the middle of the blade. Bat before wicket is not a form of dismissal. A tidy maiden from Rashid. Two, maybe three to go before tea.

Rashid has bowled consecutive maidens. It's the first time he's done that in Test cricket.

I still think there's scope for pictures of Gareth Batty at the Sydney Opera House, Times Square or in his Everton kit. Show us where he's been. It's a good start from the blond offie, who almost does Kohli on the outside edge. The in-out field provides the opportunity for singles, with India keeping their powder dry. It might no be long before they give Gareth the long handle.

It will be Gareth Batty. Alastair Cook has summoned him from the hotel pool.

I did start to wonder if England were beginning to look a bit like a club side. Skipper and young lad opening, best bat at three, an opening bowler and the rest dabble in everything. In Gareth Batty, they have the bloke who bats at 10 and doesn't bowl. He's getting loose! I hope he doesn't come on before someone mocks up a picture of him at a famous landmark.

Very tough, but the sort of chance England simply have to take in this situation. Cheteshwar Pujara gets a tiny tickle on a leg-side delivery from Ben Stokes. Jonny Bairstow moves across, dives, gets his left paw to the ball but can't cling on. It would have been a good 'un, but it was definitely catchable.

It is spinning a bit. It's spinning so slowly that Rashid is trying to find some flight and bowl it that bit quicker. It's a variation that he's trying. He's bowled nicely again. He's bowling more accurately than he has in the past and Cook is giving him confidence by going to him.
