    Ind 109-1

A lovely way to bring up your 50, late cutting Moeen away for four. These two are firmly in control.

  2. Ind 104-1published at 37 overs

Minimum of 15 overs remain today. Anderson will start the countdown. It is a maiden but there's no movement, no beating of bats. Pujara is behind everything forcefully pushing forward like a cricketing prop.

It's a good total, 400, if you have decent spinners but England's spinners are nowhere near as good as India's. They have one good spinner and one average spinner. They leak a lot of runs and it's very hard for them to squeeze pressure.

  4. Ind 104-1published at 36 overs

Moeen continues. It is a probing over but fails to threaten a breakthrough.

Fine work all round on the cricket Christmas songs. Let's refine it - a Cricket 12 days of Christmas. We've already got seven Graeme Swanns a-swimming, it's up to you to fill in the 11 blanks.

Class from Pujara. He brings up India's 100 with a late chop-cut off the returning Anderson through the gap and down to the rope at third man. He follows it up with an excellent back-foot drive for another boundary. Anderson thinks he has the last laugh after steering a ball into the batsman's thigh pad, but the ball was clearly going down.

Kevin H: 'Last Test match I gave it away, this one to save us from tears I'll try and bat sensibly.

Peter Eastwood: I'm dreaming of a Craig White Christmas.

    India trail by 304 runs

Moeen is back. He produced the one true moment of bowling class by England so far to spin one right through Rahul to claim the one wicket to fall. He tries to repeat the trick but Pujara is better with his feet, dancing down to clip a single down the ground.

What is not to like about Ben Stokes? You never get anything less than total commitment to the cause. He's getting nothing from this wicket, but yet he continues to charge in and find a good line. A maiden means he has now conceded just four runs from his four overs.

Does anything bring as much pleasure to people as spotting themselves on a big screen? It can turn even the glummest of individual to smile and wave. That's what we need - more big screens to spot yourself on.

Right now, though, I'll just take a wicket. Rashid comes mighty close, spinning one through Vijay's gate and just past off stump. Only an inch in it.

Murali Vijay has weathered the storm because they did pepper him with short deliveries after he got out to short balls in the previous two Test matches.

    Vijay 44, Pujara 17

A couple of singles brings up the 50 partnership. Very solid and panic-free it has been.

I don't mean to worry anyone but Pujara has scored 1,274 runs in his last 10 first-class matches. He averages 91.

It's a very robust reply by India, particularly the manner they have looked to attack the spinners, especially Adil Rashid because he is the one getting a lot of turn.

It only needs a fraction of misjudgment from Rashid to give these two room to score, so when he chucks a full-bunger Vijay's way he is gift-wrapping a boundary. That is exactly what happens. Shame, as it ruins all the good work before it and diminishes the prospects of a breakthrough after it in the over.

It's a bit cat and mouse at the moment. I think it's that kind of pitch. England will look to restrict the score from one end and hope the spinners can attack from the other.

The drinks sellers are doing a roaring trade in the stands as the sun belts down. The recipients are sat down as well so imagine how rough this weather is on Ben Stokes. He rumbles in to the wicket but the best he can do is keep it tight and create a pressure base from which Rashid can attack.

  20. Kiwis heading for a whitewashpublished at 09:27 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2016

New Zealand are struggling to avoid a 3-0 whitewash in their one-day series against Australia.

The Kiwis have just lost their sixth wicket for 113, chasing 265 to win the third ODI at the MCG.

Optimistically, they need 152 from 152 balls.

Earlier David Warner hit 156 off 128 balls - his seventh ODI century of 2016 - in Australia's 264-8.
