Jadeja has one last dart before lunch but he can't find a way through the defence of Jake Ball, who has outdone himself this session. He and Buttler have ensured this has been England's morning.

Winnie the Pooh and Tigger can finally go and wring their suits out now.

This is where Buttler comes into his own. He picks gaps in fields as well as any player. He takes a stride or two towards Kumar and flicks the ball fine for four.

A further single brings up the fifty partnership. Ball has scored 28 of those. Brilliant.

Umesh Yadav makes it a double seam attack for India. It is credit to Jake Ball that Jos Buttler is no longer protecting him from the strike. The big fella is an equal partner in this.

When Ball came in, 400 looked a pipe dream for England. Now it looks a reality.

41 overs after it was due, India take the new ball as seamer Bhuvneshmar Kumar comes on. Somebody get that old ball a carriage clock and wish it a very happy retirement.

Ball welcomes Kumar with a crashing drive for four that takes the tail-ender to 26 and England closer to 400. Bravo Jake.

    Ball 22, Buttler 58

Ball is getting a bit cocky. He comes down the track and tries to smash Jayant over mid-wicket but is fortunate not to send the ball straight to the fielder.

Despite a calming word from Buttler, the big seamer repeats the shot and is denied a boundary by a diving man near the rope.

  11. Eng 368-8published at 120 overs

Great shot Jake. He drops to one knee and slaps Jadeja away to the vacant mid-wicket region for four. He then snatches another two with a leading edge to cover.

Winnie the Pooh has brought a friend. Tigger is with him and bouncing about in the stands.

Adil Rashid can win the match. If India's finger spinners can turn the ball on the second day, imagine what a wrist spinner can do. The closer England get to 400, the better their chances become. This is where the turnaround started four years ago.

    Ball 13, Buttler 57

Don't ask me why, but there is someone in the crowd dressed in a huge Winnie the Pooh outfit. How warm must it be in there? They'll be knee deep in their own sweat by lunch.

India think they've got Ball as he dances down and flicks the ball up to the man at short leg. They haven't. All pad.

Making your ground when running - much harder to do when you drop your bat. Ball does just that and is very close to being run out. Fortunately, his boot strikes turf just before the wickets are broken. Ball's heart is in his mouth again, later in Jadeja's over, courtesy of a delivery that nips off length and he just manages to steer away from the diving Kohli.

There is a notable change in dynamic the moment Ashwin is removed from the attack. Suddenly, England look much freer. Ball flicks a single fine, Buttler follows suit for two before driving down the ground for a further run.

This is Buttler's first Test 50 since he made 73 in the second innings at Headingley against New Zealand in May 2015. He had averaged 15 since then.
