Dawson looks nicely organised. He's only faced a few balls, but what I've seen is good.

Umesh Yadav replaces ishant and he tests Dawson with some short deliveries reaching 90mph, but the Hampshire all-rounder keeps them out.

It's been a good day for England spinner Danielle Hazell in the Women's Big Bash League - she's taken 3-17 (with one maiden) from four overs for Melbourne Stars against Sydney Sixers., external

Earlier, Rebecca Grundy (who has just lost her England central contract) took 2-18 for Perth Scorchers against Brisbane Heat,, external while Katherine Brunt chipped in with 1-20.

Tammy Beaumont has just begun her innings for Adelaide Strikers against Sydney Thunder, external (with Charlotte Edwards due in at five). The later game sees Heather Knight's Hobart Hurricanes take on Danielle Wyatt's Melbourne Renegades.

Dawson has a slip, leg gully and a short-leg all breathing down his neck but he sweeps Ashwin's carrom ball down to fine-leg for a single to open his account. England have got 300 for only the third time in the series but how much more are they going to be able to add?

He's going forward before the ball is bowled. It's harder to go back and get out of the way. We tell people to stand still before you know where you want to go.

Second ball in Test cricket and Dawson is pinged on the badge by Ishant with a bouncer that moved back in at him menacingly. But after an examination of both batsman and helmet he is ok to continue.

  7. Wiltshire's Test historypublished at 04:36 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2016

Despite being the first Test cricketer born in Swindon, Liam Dawson is not the first to have hailed from Wiltshire, as the market town of Corsham - between Chippenham and Bath - produced two England players in the first half of the 20th century.

The wonderfully-named left-handed batsman Septimus Kinneir, external played one Test in 1911, while tall fast bowler 'Big' Jim Smith, external appeared five times between 1935 and 1937 - and was also known for his big hitting, having once cleared the old grandstand at Lord's. Both were Wisden Cricketers of the Year (in 1912 and 1935).

Debutant Liam Dawson, England cap number 676 is the new man. He has eight first-class centuries to his name. Moeen has the strike in this Ashwin over, however, and dances down the wicket to smite him down the ground for his first six, before whipping his 13th four delightfully through mid-wicket.

Buttler didn't settle, especially against Ishant. That was a full length ball that may have swung a little. Buttler tried to whip it on the leg side and missed it. It so full that it couldn't have been going over the top. England are faltering.

Buttler lbw Ishant 5 (Eng 300-6)

Not much doubt about this one, Buttler playing across the line and trapped right in front to Ishant. He has a speculative word with Moeen but they decide there is little point in a review.

It's not been easy for England. Ishant has got the odd ball to move and Ashwin is scenting the possibility of more wickets.

Ashwin again, with a slip, a leg gully and a man crouching close alongside the non-striker. Buttler collects two more with a more authoritative stroke through the covers.

  13. Aussies decline to enforce follow-onpublished at 04:22 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2016

Pakistan have been bowled out for 142 on day three of the day-night Test in Brisbane, and despite a first-innings lead of 287, Australia have declined to enforce the follow-on. They've already lost David Warner in their second innings and are 16-1, leading by over 300 already.

A testing over from Sharma, Moeen close to falling for the bouncer trap when his top edge fell short of the less than nimble Mishra at fine-leg.

A lot of batsmen take guard on middle and off now. That's an evolution. It's a sticky start from Buttler.

  16. Not out - Buttler on 2published at 04:19 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2016

The impact was outside the line and it was umpire's call for hitting so umpire Simon Fry can nonchalantly indicate that he was right all along.

  18. Umpire reviewpublished at 04:18 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2016

And India are going to ask a question here for an lbw against Buttler.

  19. Eng 291-5published at 93 overs

Buttler away with a two off Ashwin down to fine-leg. A stifled appeal for lbw with the final delivery but it comes to nothing. Plenty more questions to be asked soon no doubt though.

Chris Lamb: Nothing better than getting in from a night out and listening to TMS.
