A big night tonight on the BBC, with the final of Strictly Come Dancing at 18:40 GMT. I'm just debating whether I'll be able to stay up "late" enough to watch it - and in truth I'm still mourning the departure of Claudia Fragapane at the semi-final stage. Anyway, time for the first coffee of the day and for Stephan Shemilt to describe the afternoon session.

  3. Rank your cricketing moments of 2016published at 06:22 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2016

As the year draws to a close, we want to know what have been your favourite cricketing moments of 2016.

There was Ben Stokes' unbelievable innings at Cape Town, or the time he was on the receiving end of Carlos Brathwaite's four sixes to win the World T20.

Middlesex won a thrilling County Championship, the Aussies were rolled for 85 by South Africa in Hobart, and England smashed a number of ODI records against Pakistan.

Or maybe you fondly remember a lighter moment like Misbah-ul-Haq's press-ups at Lord's, or the dog running on the pitch at Visakhapatnam.

We've picked some of the best moments for you to pick your favourites - the winner will be revealed on the Tuffers and Vaughan Cricket Show on BBC Radio 5 live on Tuesday.

Paul: Too many in the England side do just enough to show us what they can do - now the question is "Why don't they?"

Steve Davies: You wake up every morning with England with expectations only to have them dashed by their ineptitude.

  5. Is the no-ball law the cause of bowler injuries?published at 06:10 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2016

During the lunch interval, TMS listeners can now hear today's latest edition of Stumped, the BBC World Service cricket programme which is produced in association with the ABC and All India Radio.

Today, the team discuss a radical new theory on bowler injuries, meet Virat Kohli's lifelong coach, and hear from Chris Adams on coaching the Dutch.

You can also try Stumped's quiz of the year.

India will be satisfied. They got the big men out - Stokes, Buttler and Moeen, who finished with 146 but might chastise himself for the manner of his dismissal. In the last half an hour it's been old-fashioned Test cricket. Dawson has played soundly, like an opening batsman.

We've lost the TV pictures again but a third boundary for Dawson, driving Mishra through the covers and that will be lunch. England scored 68-2 in the first session yesterday and they have added 68-3 today.

Dawson is a solid-looking batsman. He looks like an old-fashioned opener. He gets in line and plays everything on its merits. He seems to be relishing it.

One week and a day into married life with basketball player Pratima Singh, Ishant has various items around his neck in addition to wearing his long locks in a pony tail. A short delivery barely gets up to shin height and deceives Dawson, who makes no contact with an attempted hook and ends up on his backside.

Another maiden from Mishra. There was one hugely inviting looping delivery wide of off-stump that Rashid was hugely tempted to have a dart at. But his sensible side prevailed and he chose to play no stroke.

Jadeja has a restaurant in Rajkot. It's been demolished in a drive against illegal construction.

Ishant, who dismissed Keaton Jennings in the sixth over of the morning yesterday and Buttler in the sixth over today, returns for another spell with a quarter of an hour remaining until lunch. Both batsmen collect singles and the crowd show their delight as Jadeja dives to stop one, showing no adverse reaction after that earlier collision with Rashid in full flight.

We've lost the TV pictures as the technical problems continue in Chennai following Cyclone Vardah, but mercifully we still have the audio and there is a third maiden in succession from Mishra.

Not a huge amount of turn for Mishra but he beats Rashid's defensive lunge. Only the second maiden for the leg-spinner.

It was a perfectly innocent collision. Rashid set off quite late and the ball was thrown into his path. Against the odds, Jadeja came off worse than Rashid.

  19. ouch!

    Jadeja 3-78 from 31

Problems there, as the great Richie would have said. Rashid thumps Jadeja into the off side and then inadvertently into the solar plexus as the two ball-watching players collide. The smooth-headed India physio, resplendent in blue T-shirt and khaki shorts, administers some reassurance and Jadeja is ok to continue.

The portly leg-spinner Mishra, with the sun glinting on his bald spot, scuttles in again with a slip and short-leg in place but these England spinners have been enterprising against their India counterparts and a handy partnership extends to 22.
