I thought the door had opened when they got the wicket of Kohli and now the other century-maker is out. What a contribution from Jadhav though - 120 from 76 deliveries.

    Jadhav c Stokes b Ball 120 (Ind 291-6)

Jake Ball perseveres with the short ball and finally sees it rewarded as Kedar Jadhav pulls one straight to Ben Stokes, who doesn't drop those.

A fantastic innings on his home ground comes to a close.

India may be able to scamper some more runs now, but England will be relieved to see the back of Jadhav's big hitting.

Ravindra Jadeja strides out to the middle...

It was like Virat Kohli was facing throwdowns, and he was waiting for it and smashing it from under his nose. I watch him and feel privileged to commentate on him.

    Need 63 runs to win

11 runs off the spell before that over, but then 11 runs in the over off Stokes.

Talking of one leg - different format and all but I remember Steve Waugh's one-legged humiliation of England in the 2001 Ashes as a particularly scarring moment in my early years following England.

I'm sure this Jadhav performance is giving England fans similar nightmares.

It's so demoralising, isn't it? Not only are they being smashed around the pitch by India but one of them is on one leg.

Stokes' first poor ball of this spell races to the boundary through fine leg off Pandya's bat.

More stand and deliver from Jadhav as Stokes' second poor ball of this spell results in another boundary.

Stokes is raging. This game is racing away from England.

It's a bowlers' graveyard today - and that shot defies description.

    Jadhav 114, Pandya 2

Kedar Jadhav is still out there though - he can't run so might as well hit some sixes, which he duly does off the returning Jake Ball here.

One of the more remarkable dot balls follows later in the over as Jadhav goes for a big hit that drops safe into the infield but then collapses after making the shot and can't run.

Will he go off retired hurt?

Not a chance. And why should he - hitting his second emphatic six of the over off the last ball.

All the criticism of Root is astounding. Don't get me wrong, Kohli is an incredible cricketer, but at a similar age to Root is now, in an away series in England he averaged 13.50 in five Tests and scored 54 in total across four ODI innings. Kohli's brilliant. But so is Root.

Another all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, is the next man in.

And he gets off the mark in slightly farcical fashion, swiping wildly at a short ball he had little idea about and is fortunate to see it drop safe.

England owe Ben Stokes a debt of gratitude yet again. He's conceded just 11 runs in three overs in this spell - and the wicket of Kohli to boot.

The ball after making an inspiring talk of victory to his partner, Kohli has lollied it up to mid-wicket and gone off, whacking his leg in annoyance. He's let England back in.

Well now...a huge moment in this cracking encounter.

Virat Kohli skies one and David Willey makes no mistake.

Looking again, Ben Stokes (who else?) rolled his fingers around the ball to deceive the India captain.

Jadhav has handled this innings with absolute aplomb - he has never once looked in trouble. And he seems to have inspired Kohli to even greater deeds.

It's not quite just the Kohli show though - Jadhav works Woakes through third man for the four that brings up a brilliant hundred on his home ground.

It's the sixth fastest by an Indian batsman in ODIs - taking him just 65 balls.

A magnificent knock in support of his captain.

Any cricketer who's ever got the treatment will know how Chris Woakes feels here.

He goes to Plan D - around the wicket to Kohli - and the India captain still dismisses him through mid-wicket for four.

Ben Stokes has been the man with the golden arm - so often he has rescued England with his batting, bowling and fielding.

  18. Ind 251-4published at 35 overs

    Target 351

Ben Stokes is not quite England's last hope, but definitely their best option right now as he allows *just* six runs off this over.

Jadhav seems to struggling with cramp - you're not allowed a runner in ODI cricket.

I feel for him with Kohli pushing for every extra run. India need 100 more of them to win.

That six Kohli hit off Woakes in the last over... most bowlers would be happy with that ball. He just manhandled it, almost with a straight bat. It was a bit like using a tennis racquet with a tennis ball - the ball just seemed so light.

England have crumbled here. Fine play from India but 350 was defendable. The Rashid 'experiment' must be over?

    Kevin in Caversham

Let's just not play any spinners. It may be obligatory to play them in India but when they are rubbish, let's just go for pace. Bye bye Rashid.
