Now Chris Woakes is at it. Yet another short ball, this time Yuvraj decides to pull it for six. The floodlights are on in Cuttack, but there are no lights on for England. Didn't Einstein say insanity was doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result? Einstein's leg-cutters would be more than England's long-hops at the moment.

England's plans to Yuvraj need to be a little more orthodox. They are bowling slower short balls and he's belting them to the fence every time.

Right. Let's go over this one more time. You tried bowling short to Yuvraj Singh. It didn't work. In fact, it did the opposite of working. He's got a hundred. Jake Ball, it might be best to try something different. Eoin Morgan, maybe you want to have a word with him? And by something different, I don't mean a shin-high full toss. That won't work either. 11 off the over.

It's quite unbelievable. Who would want to be a bowler? He's not timed that at all and it's gone for six.

Graham Gooch once said that playing against Richard Hadlee's New Zealand was like having the World XI at one end and Ilford Second XI at the other. It's sort of been like that with England today. Woakes three for not much at the top, the rest cannon fodder. Dhoni does his best to sort that, lofting over long-on for a maximum.

Dom Ford: Huge congrats to Yuvraj, what a legend, on and off the pitch! Hugely deserved!

Jay: Look at the bright side. If England hadn't got Kohli out, India would probably be at 300 after 30 overs

  7. Ind 217-3published at 36.1 overs

Erm, what's happening here? Dhoni has inside-edged one amidships and calls for the physio. He reaches inside his trousers and presents the poor medical man with his box. What's he supposed to do with that? How much would it fetch on eBay?

It will be an interesting to see what total India can achieve. I think India will be looking more than 350.

  9. Ind 217-3published at 36 overs

    Ball 7-0-46-0

The royal blue men of England are cutting lonely figures surrounded by a stadium full of baying India fans. Jake Ball's back-of-a-length plan has success against Dhoni, but not against Yuvraj, who belts a long-hop to mid-wicket for four. Bar Woakes, England have bowled poorly. Any chance of a yorker? Another short ball, another pull for four. Pitch. It. Up.

Liam Plunkett has created a few half chances but it's interesting that he's only bowling at about 82 mph.

The problem there is that Woakes can't bowl from both ends. In fact, he's only got five left. That means Eoin Morgan has got to find 10 from elsewhere. Liam Plunkett, in for his extra pace, hasn't really worked the speedo and seems to have his radar set on 'leg-stump half-volley'. Partnership now worth 179, the highest for the fourth wicket in an ODI against England.

This is a very, very good pitch to bat on. England were rewarded for bowling a very good length and line at the start with Chris Woakes still pitching it up despite being hit to the boundary a couple of times by Virat Kohli. It will be time for England skipper Morgan to get Woakes back on.

  13. Ind 197-3published at 34 overs

    Yuvraj 103, Dhoni 65

Danger Alert Level Five for England here. Spectators in the stands might want to think about donning some sort of protective gear. Bowlers might want to take out some sort of insurance on their figures. Kedar Jadhav, the man who belted a ton in the first ODI, is still to come. The tourists would bite your hand off for anything under 350 here.

It's a hundred under pressure from Yuvraj. To bat in those circumstances when England were right on top and to get to a hundred in under a run a ball tells you the class of the man.

What a wonderful, wonderful century by Yuvraj Singh. This is only his second ODI since 2013. He saw his team reduced to 25-3. His 13th ton has come in 96 balls, littered with bullet drives and swivel pulls. A single takes him to three figures and sparks incredible celebrations. A look to the sky and the dressing room, a tap of the heart, maybe even a tear in the eye. Great moment.

  18. Ind 183-3published at 32 overs

    Yuvraj 93, Dhoni 62

Urgh, that's ugly from Ben Stokes. Short, wide, carved to the third man fence by Yuvraj. Concerns are growing for England - this could be 340+. India, remember, were 25-3 after Chris Woakes took three in as many overs. When Stokes goes full, Yuvraj nails on on-drive for four more. He's batting like a left-handed Kohli. Eoin Morgan looks as worried as a father in the delivery room.

Today shows why Morgan should never have been made captain. When bowling is poor and discipline is going, be radical and break away from the pre-match plan. Change the bowling round, try an odd part-timer like Root or keep Woakes on longer when he has them on the rack. We want inspiration and innovation not just perspiration.

Now Dhoni is looking to open his shoulders and when he does that there are going to be a lot more shots going over the boundary.
