England's issue here is that, apart from maybe Chris Woakes, I'm not sure which of the bowlers Eoin Morgan could trust to watch the puppy. You feel that the rest of the bowlers are vulnerable to carnage. Dhoni is deep in his crease, nudging the ball around like its master. Cuttack, under a hazy blue sky, is jammed tighter than a wrestler's singlet.

This partnership has given Kedar Jadhav - who played so brilliantly in Pune and comes in next - the platform to start playing his shots straight away.

If Yuvraj has provided the wind, then MS Dhoni has been the man with his hand on the tiller. Dhoni, cricket's version of Yoda, goes to a 62nd ODI fifty with a thick edge off Ben Stokes. Cuttack responds with a noise heard on Mars. England need a wicket likes the desert needs the rain.

It was a real swirler and at one stage I thought it was going to go all the way for six and I wonder if that's what Jake Ball was thinking as he ran towards the boundary - he just couldn't get anything on it. It was a cross-seam delivery from Liam Plunkett and produced the false stroke - it went so high in the air.

Chance! It would have been a cracking catch by Jake Ball, but still one that he would have fancied taking. It's a massive leading edge by MS Dhoni off Liam Plunkett, one that travels a massive distance. Ball, probably England's weakest fielder, runs back from mid-on with the ball dropping over his shoulder. He dives, barely gets a hand on it, and the ball trickles for four.

Very aggressive stroke from MS Dhoni - it's what we've seen from him plenty of times in the past - flat over midwicket, using his wrists to generate power. He plays badminton and uses it to keep himself fit and get his wrists working. One thing I have noticed about Dhoni is that he is looking very trim compared to the IPL last year. He spent some time training with the army.

Moeen has bowled nicely - at the start of this over only he and Chris Woakes had an economy under five. He gets away with a couple here, Dhoni first looking to overhit a full toss, then a long-hop. Good battle, cat and mouse, Moeen trying to watch Dhoni's feet. Eventually, Dhoni is the cat, a full swing of the bat into the mid-wicket stand.

Martyn Watkins: Sitting in an office in Mumbai surrounded by Indians, they are getting confident now, need a wicket.

Neil: Kohli who ? When Yuvraj is in full swing.

  9. Ind 141-3published at 27 overs

England had the idea that Yuvrak wasn't too clever against the short ball. They might want to put that thought in the shed for now. David Willey tries again (or just bowls an unintentional long hop) and is pulled away to the fence by the left-handed biffer. That's seven leg-side fours for Yuvraj, mostly off short balls.

England will be happy that India haven't got a lot more because of the early wickets but this is a very good partnership and if they don't get a breakthrough, there could be carnage here. I think it might time for an injection of pace.

Cheers, Higgo. Game on in Cuttack. If the wicket of Kohli was a miracle, or a mistake, then Yuvraj Singh is now rolling back the years - this is only his second ODI since 2013. Nice, tight over from Moeen Ali, only two singles from it.

  12. Ind 132-3published at 25 overs

I'd be interested to know David Willey's economy rate after 10 overs of an innings and in the following 40. I suspect he goes for many more runs later in the innings. Twelve runs are taken on his return to the attack.

England need a change in momentum. Perhaps Stephan Shemilt can bring it?

    Over to him.

There's not much about Yuvraj's cricket I could tell you that is new. But I have found some interesting facts on the internet about the all-rounder. Did you know, for example, that Yuvi was India's national roller-skating champion when he was 14?

And that he was a child actor in two films? And that his favourite bowler is Lasith Malinga?

    You do now.

The wicket of Virat Kohli was a bit of a strange one - it was the first time in a long time I've seen him play a shot that was a bit wishy-washy.

    Oh, Yuvi... stop it.

What an amazing shot. Ben Stokes bowls a heavy delivery outside off stump and Yuvraj moves to his highest ODI score since 2011 with a six over extra cover. He made Stokes look like Mark Ealham there. Not the Freddie Flintoff-like all-rounder he clearly is.

There is where England have to be careful - they have to keep their discipline. They lost it in the last game.

  18. Ind 104-3published at 22 overs

The runs are beginning to flow like alchohol at the back end of a party. Both Yuvraj and Dhoni help themselves to a boundary off Moeen. Are things about to get loud?

That's exactly what India want from Yuvraj. He's come into this side because of the experience he brings. There was always going to be a period of consolidation for India - now England have to be patient and ready to take the opportunity when they can.

A 52nd ODI half-century for Yuvraj, who has scored at almost a run a ball with some strong leg-side bunts and more classical off-side drives. A super knock to drag India out of trouble.
