  1. Ind 39-3published at 9 overs

Chris Woakes continues to bowl heavy balls outisde off stump and MS Dhoni shuffles across his crease to try and counter the tactic. Oh for a Jimmy inducker now.

Incidentally, has anyone seen the MS Dhoni biopic which was released late in 2016? Any good?

Have they left it open for a post-captaincy sequel? Mahendra Singh strikes back.

    Maiden over.

It's incredible to think that Yuvraj Singh played his first ODI in the year 2000 - Michael Atherton was still playing then.

Classic Yuvraj as the stocky left-hander sits back in his crease, reads the length expertly and dinks Jake Ball for four into the leg side.

The boundaries continue when Ball goes fuller and is clipped off the pads for another four. Yuvi looking in good touch.

The wicket of Kohli was super cricket. The England bowlers felt the short boundaries were a bit short, so a top edge would go for edge, they decided to go wide. They were hoping to get him into a drive and that any tiny bit of swing would be maximised. It was a stunning catch by Stokes.

  5. How's stat?!published at 08:39 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2017

This is the first time that India have lost three wickets in the first five overs of an ODI since playing Sri Lanka in Dhaka in 2010. It's the first time at home since 2007.

  6. Ind 27-3 (Woakes 4-2-14-3)published at 7 overs

Chris Woakes has got the Indian batsmen on toast at the moment. The hosts are going at a snail's pace. Maiden over.

Gary Corken: What a start! Best not mess this up.

Tom Audsley: Woakes is on fire! The crowd is quiet on the commentary!

  8. Ind 27-3published at 6 overs

While we become giddier than a giddy kipper, Eoin Morgan retains that ice-cool demeanour as he polishes the ball between deliveries. Not a man to challenge to a game of poker.

Neither is MS Dhoni, who always looks like he's nipped out to get a paper. The runs have dried up, but India are in rebuild phase for now.

Well I think it's been a strange innings. Dhawan has not been on form and this was an opportunity to play himself in and he just gives his wicket away. It wasn't even a good delivery.

  10. Ind 25-3published at 5 overs

Get MS Dhoni out cheaply and England might be able to plan a spot of early-evening golf.

    What's going on here?

India are collapsing like a dodgy flatpack wardrobe. They're three down now as Shikhar Dhawan tries an expansive drive and plays on. Stumps splattered, England ecstatic.

  12. Ind 25-2 (Dhawan 11, Yuvraj 1)published at 4 overs

If there's one person who wouldn't have dropped that, it's Ben Stokes. He's England's Galactico.

Yuvraj joins Shikhar Dhawan at the crease. In 2013, this would have been ominous. Now, in 2017, it's an opening.

That's the wicket England wanted. The ground has gone deadly silent. It's another terrific catch from Ben Stokes.

    Unbelievable!

Silence sweeps across an entire landmass of one billion people as Virat Kohli jams his bat into the ground and edges an innocuous delivery to Ben Stokes at second slip.

The roars from the England fielders tell you everything you need to know about the significance of that scalp.

  15. Ind 22-1published at 2.5 overs

Virat Kohli is purring like a hot-off-the-production line Bentley.

Another slightly fullish delivery from Chris Woakes and another off drive for four.

What a good delivery from Chris Woakes, leaving the batsman behind and a very good catch from Ben Stokes. Stokes makes an impact on the field and never drops a catch.

It's another failure for KL Rahul.

  17. Ind 18-1published at 2.2 overs

Virat Kohli strides to the middle.

The crowd cheers. England exhale with nervous dread.

England's only hope of restricting India is to bowl them out.

In this respect, it's one down nine to go as Chris Woakes squares up KL Rahul who edges a low catch to the tumbling Ben Stokes at second slip.

    Superb cricket from England.

  19. Ind 14-0published at 2 overs

    Rahul 5, Dhawan 9

Shikhar Dhawan is up and running too - piercing the infield with a sumptuous cover drive off left-arm seamer David Willey. Dreamy shot.

And he repeats it the very next ball. England are going to be chasing leather for the next three and a half hours.
