  1. Ind 6-0 (Eng won toss)published at 1 over

KL Rahul, by the way, has an ODI average of 104. Even taking into account that modern-day Indian cricketers are born with an average of 45, that's still mightily impressive.

The crowd are expectant, greeting every meeting of leather and willow with a huge roar. Six from the opening over - Woakes recovers well.

The pitch will not offer a lot to the bowlers. The Indian batsman will try and build a foundation, but you get the feeling they will need a very big score here. There are a lot of runs to be had.

  3. Ind 4-0published at 0.1 overs

Chris Woakes chugs up, wide outside off stump and KL Rahul smokes the ball through the covers for four. Here we go.

Shikhar Dhawan and his opening partner KL Rahul put on their helmets, twist their bats in their hands a la Alec Stewart and stride to the middle on a bright, hazy day in Cuttack.

The toss is very important indeed and Eoin Morgan has done his first job very well, electing to bowl first. They have neutralised Virat Kohli's run chasing - he's perhaps one of the best in the world and that's a big thing to take him out of the chase.

It was inevitable that Adil Rashid would be left out, he lacked a bit of confidence at the end of that first game. He needs to rebuild his confidence in the nets.

England, remember, are wearing black armbands in memory of Rachael Heyhoe Flint. Test Match Special will air a special programme remembering the pioneering former England captain during the interval.

Right... we have players, we have umpires, we have an excitable crowd.

Let's get this show on the road.

First, we'll have the national anthems.

It's a special day for Eoin Morgan, too.

Today is the 50th time he has captained England in a 50-over contest. He's only the sixth man to do so - the others being Alastair Cook, Andrew Strauss, Michael Vaughan, Nasser Hussain and Graham Gooch.

  12. Stats of the daypublished at 07:48 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2017

    • If India win this match, they will have claimed five bilateral ODI series victories in their last six attempts against England.
    • England have won only two of their last 19 completed ODIs to take place in India, against India (T1, L16).
    • This will be the fifth time in ODI cricket that these sides will have faced off at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack; both teams have won twice there previously, the hosts winning by six wickets in the most recent encounter (November 2008).
    • India come into this match having won their last five completed ODIs at the Barabati Stadium.

Virat Kohli, by the way, was cooler than the other side of your pillow during his pre-game chat in the middle.

Fluorescent orange collar upturned, cap and shades, hands in pocket, a hint of a Neegan-style arched back (one for the Walking Dead fans) and a steely glare.

    Ice, ice, Kohli.

  14. England hope extra seamer pays dividendspublished at 07:39 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2017

England captain Eoin Morgan talking to Sky Sports: "It's looks a pretty good wicket. I expect a bit of dew later on. The team's frame of mind is really good and hopefully we can rectify the first result today. Given the nature of the surface we have should benefit from an extra seamer on the field so we've brought in Liam Plunkett."

  15. Kohli relaxed about batting firstpublished at 07:38 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2017

India captain Virat Kohli: "The toss is not something we are not in control of. What's important are the skills we need to execute. It's a good surface and we'll look to put some big runs on the board."
