Now that was a game of cricket, made all the sweeter by an England win.

That is all for our coverage of the ODI series. But do not fear, for BBC Sport cricket will return in The Man With the Golden Gun... no, sorry, the Twenty20 series. That starts on Thursday. At 11am.

    I'll see thee.

England's batsmen have worked very well as a unit.  Roy has improved and looks a really fine player, he just needs to convert those 60s.  Stokes has come of age as a lower order batsman, Bairstow played well, Billings is showing future potential and Morgan has come back with some good scores.

Dom Ford: Love that reaction from MS Dhoni at the end, applauding a great game no matter of the result! Don't see much of that these days.

  4. 'We almost got over the line'published at 16:39 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2017

India captain Virat Kohli: "It's been a series of a lot of positives. We almost got over the line today and we were getting excited to see two of our younger guys showing character lower down the order. I'm very pleased. Kedar Jadhav is a brilliant find for us. He's coming into his own, he gives us more experience and he allows the two experienced guys - Yuvraj and MS Dhoni - to bat together higher up the order."

  6. 'We fought hard'published at 16:36 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2017

England captain Eoin Morgan: "It has been hard work. A competitive series. It was tough for the bowlers. We were rewarded for our persistence and drive to get a result. We fought hard against a really good side.

"It was similar to an English wicket. You have to do it the hard way when you lose the toss. Credit to the guys up front. Jason Roy and Sam Billings did a fantastic job.

"The bowlers make the captain look good. They did a great job today. It was wicket that rewarded them for good discipline, line and length.

On Chris Woakes' last over: "The first couple of balls didn't work so we had to think on our feet and make something happen. It was an outstanding win, which we did the hard way.

On the series: "Huge amount of positives. India outplayed us in the first two games. But getting a win is important. Not getting results damages the side's confidence. We have scored over 300 in every game and the bowlers have improved."

  7. Man of the seriespublished at 16:30 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2017

Kedar Jadhav, who is named man of the series: "I was planning to face all six balls in the final over, to ensure the bowler would be under pressure because I was hitting them well. The ball I got out to, I was not in position to play the big shot. I was still moving and that is why I got out. Since I came into the team, I have spent a lot of time with MS Dhoni and that has helped me to deal with every situation in a calm manner."

Man of the match Ben Stokes: "It was difficult when we came here last time. I put it down to good captaincy to get my overs out the way before the last over!

"It was difficult at the start of my innings. The ball was doing a bit so I gave myself as much time as I could. Woakesy played a good part in that as well.

"It has been fantastic to be a part of the series. Thankfully we got a win."

There wasn't any shame in losing those first two games. There was nothing in it for the England bowlers and they came up against some fantastic Indian batting.  Here, there was more in the pitch for England and they exploited it very well.  The Champions Trophy will have these kind of pitches and England look better suited when the ball does a little bit.

England's Chris Woakes on his final over: "It's not ideal going for six and four in your first two deliveries but fortunately I got the wicket and then I was bowling to a guy who needed six off his first ball. To get the win in these conditions, in front of this large crowd... it's good for us."

England deserved that win. They surged to the death with the batting, including a fantastic cameo from Woakes. They asked a lot of questions of the Indian batting and just managed to get home. Its shows England do have something about them to be able to win here in India.

All smiles, high fives and hugs from the England players. They deserve them as well. It has been a looooong tour, full of humbling defeats and disappointment. But they have dug deep here. They looked to have snatched another defeat from the jaws of victory but battled back, held their nerve and got the win.

They may have lost the series 2-1, but today shows they have the talent and the temperament to encourage further growth.

It's been a superb series, with really thrilling cricket. This was the best of the lot in terms of closeness at the end. It was Billings and Woakes who kept their cool in the final over.

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! What a pressure catch, and Billings takes it, running in to claim as Jadhav rocks back and sends Woakes' ball skywards into the off side. England's game now surely?! Six needed off the last.

It's a wonderful climax to what's been a pulsating series. England have not played badly, they just haven't been able to force home a victory in the first two matches. It would be great for their confidence if they could get this one.
