"Moeen, get us a wicket," says Eoin Morgan.

Nothing doing. Three runs chipped from the target.

England need to think very carefully about their tactics here. They don't want to get carried away with the short ball. If they are going to bowl it, it needs to be well directed.

  3. 50 runs

    Ind 96-2published at 18 overs

A raise of the bat, smile and handshake with his batting partner from Virat Kohli after the skipper brings up his half-century with a straight drive. A loud appeal from a red-faced Ben Stokes follows when the right-hander is caught in front by a nip-backer. Not out. England choose not to review. Good shout, since it would have gone with umpire's call anyway.

While Virat Kohli is all rubber wrists, timing and placement, Yuvraj is a little less subtle. Again he belts the ball through mid-wicket for four.

And again! This time via a swivel pull shot. Liam Plunkett looks exasperated.

This has been the sternest test Virat Kohli has faced during this entire tour.

India are facing a tricky period at the moment. England are getting the ball to move. Plunkett is getting more bite out of the pitch.

Textbook Yuvraj. The ball is short and wide and Yuvraj fetches it from outside his off stump and thumps through mid-wicker for four. Ben Stokes is not amused.

This is what England need to do, build pressure with the dots and force the error. When the batsman makes the mistake they need to make sure the fielder does not.

  11. Ind 74-2published at 15 overs

    Target 322

Liam Plunkett is said to be the quickest bowler in England's County Championship, so no wonder he looks a little bemused when Virat Kohli caresses a delivery through gully for four.

The difference between the India and England supporters in the ground tonight is captured by the television cameras.

While a middle-aged English couple - they look like a Dave and June - sit quietly and nod in approval at a cover drive, an India fan jumps up and down excitedly behind them. Face paint, waving a flag... this guy's keen to get on the tele-box.

Virat Kohli has looked uneasy at times, but he's still scored 42 at almost a run a ball.

  14. Ind 67-2published at 13 overs

Liam Plunkett is unfortunate. His extra pace worried Virat Kohli a couple of times in that over. Jake Ball is told to keep his head up by Sam Billings, who runs round from his fielding position to give his mate a pat on the back.

It is a very well directed bouncer, around the back shoulder. He was cramped for room and the ball went up in the air. Jake Ball made a hash of it. It is this new thing about dropping to take the catch. Just stand tall and take it. Even before the ball came to him he had folded his right knee.

Oh dear. That's a bad drop. A costly one, no doubt.

Liam Plunkett's extra pace forces Virat Kohli into a mis-timed hook shot and the top edge flies to fine leg. Jake Ball gets to the ball but it bounces out of his hands as he slides across the lush turf.

England are doing a good job of pegging India back. If Chris Woakes can get his line right he will be a lot more economical. he is over-correcting because he is getting movement and the Indian batsmen have been able to pick him off.

  18. Ind 60-2published at 12 overs

    Target 322

Yuvraj is becoming frustrated at his lack of timing. Perhaps part of the problem is his shot selection. He tries to fetch Jake Ball's half-tracker from well outside off stump and succeeds only in bunting a single to mid-on.

I live on the SW Pacific island of Espiritu Santo. No pictures available here, internet much too slow, but am greatly enjoying the OBO.  On my wall I have a miniature cricket bat, about 40 cms long, autographed by Adam Gilchrist. My son found it in a bundle of bric-a-brac in an old store here, probably sent over from Australia.

If Liam Plunkett was your mate, you'd definitely rope him in for help when moving house. A strong bloke. He's thankful for some good boundary work from Sam Billings which turns four into two. The Kent man improves England's fielding when he's in the team.
