  1. Ind 316-8published at 49.2 overs

6 runs required from 4 balls

Oh no, oh no. Four. Jadhav goes back again and hammers through extra.

  2. 6 runs

    Ind 312-8published at 49.1 overs

10 runs required off 5 balls

Oh no. Six off Woakes' first ball as Jadhav gets right back and slices way over extra cover.

  3. Ind 306-8published at 49 overs

16 runs required off 6 balls

Well bowled Jake Ball. Three runs off his last three balls.

  4. Ind 303-8published at 48.3 overs

19 runs required off 9 balls

Jake Ball bowls the penultimate over. He starts with two dots, full outside off, before Jadhav gets a thick inside edge for four. Lucky, lucky, lucky.

Stokes held his nerve and thought about the situation clearly. He's such a good thinking cricketer, you think of him as all brawn but he thinks about the game and that's going to enhance his IPL bidding price.

Some redemption at Eden Gardens for Ben Stokes.

  7. Ind 299-8published at 48 overs

23 runs required off 12 balls

Stokes is fuming that a slower ball is given as wide down leg. The new man was backing away down leg and he followed him. Still, a wide it is. Only four runs off the over, though. Top class from England's all-rounder.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 47.5 overs

    Ashwin c Woakes b Stokes 1 (Ind 297-8)

Brilliant stuff from Stokes, at the scene of one of his biggest lows in cricket. Ashwin gets under a full ball and sends it high for Chris Woakes to catch. Silence at Eden Gardens. England are fighting tooth and nail.

The normally calm Paul Farbrace was looking quite cross after that over from Woakes. It's a learning experience for England but they can't keep saying they're learning, they've got to force the initiative home. That was a poor over from Woakes.

  10. Ind 296-7published at 47.3 overs

26 runs required off 15 balls

Stokes starts with a dot ball before Ravi Ashwin steers him away for a single. Jadhav is beaten with the third ball. Vital.

  11. Ind 295-7published at 47 overs

27 runs required off 18 balls

Really? Woakes goes full with mid-on and mid-off up and Jadhav chips him back down the ground for four. Poor.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 46.5 overs

    Jadeja c Bairstow b Woakes 10 (Ind 291-7)

Hold on! Another twist! Woakes stays full and Jadeja slaps the ball straight to Jonny Bairstow in the deep on the leg side. This isn't over.

  13. Ind 291-6published at 46.4 overs

31 runs required off 20 balls

Four more as Jadeja thumps a drive past Woakes. India are favourites now.

  14. Ind 287-6published at 46.3 overs

35 runs required off 21 balls

Woakes' first yorker goes for just a single. But his attempt at a second is full and Jadeja smashes it over mid-off for four.

  15. Ind 282-6published at 46.1 overs

Woakes returns and starts with a no ball for height - the last thing England needed. Can only think the dew played a part in that. The free hit goes for just one. Phew.

I fancy if that throw from Woakes had hit, Jadeja would have been a goner.

  17. Ind 279-6published at 46 overs

43 runs required off 24 balls

Ravi Jadeja joins the fun. He is off the mark with a single that almost results in him being run out. Chris Woakes' throw misses by a yard. Great over from Stokes.

Importantly for England, not only is it a wicket, it's a dot ball.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 45.3 overs

    Pandya b Stokes 56 (Ind 277-6)

Breakthrough! Hope for England. Stokes cleans up Pandya and punches the air. It is a crucial wicket.

It's very difficult to know what to bowl at this point. Normally you'd be bowling slower balls, but because there's something in it for the bowlers they're still trying to bowl on a length.
