You can tell with a batsman's body language. I thought Morgan looked a bit guilty. He immediately turned his back on the umpire.

No bat, and a cautious lbw check says it pitched outside leg. Not a great shout, all told.

Inside edge? Looks to be thigh pad.

Dhoni's pretty good at knowing these things.

What Dhoni wants, Dhoni gets. Bumrah to Morgan. Caught behind? The old skipper thinks so, so therefore the whole of India believes...

There's a pretty serious Mexican Wave happening in the ground. An indiciation, as far as the crowd is concerned, that the game has gone a little flat. England are tootling around and biding their time for an assault on the bowlers later on.

Good lord, it's noisy in Kolkata. I mean, Indian crowds don't need much invitation to make a din, but here they are bursting ear drums. They may just be making their own entertainment. Ravi Jadeja is at it again here. Only 45 from his 10 overs the other night, 2-37 off seven here. Those numbers were only damaged by a Bairstow slash at a wide one for four.

This is an important period for England. The openers were patient on a pitch that is doing all sorts but, as throughout the series, they got out.

Jasprit Bumrah back on. Lots of chat about him sounding like a character from Thundercats. That wasn't one of my favourites. I preferred the Raccoons and Babar the Elephant. Slice of luck for Eoin Morgan, a Chinese cut goes past MS Dhoni for four.

That shot was played with a lot of conviction.

Feeettttcccchhhhhh! A bit of dance-and-biff from Jonny Bairstow, who hammers Ravi Jadeja over long-off for six. I was thinking that this will be more of a 'proper' ODI' - 300-320ish a good score. None of this namby-pamby hit every other delivery for four or six. There's time for that to change, mind.

Bairstow releases some pressure with a sweep off Ashwin for four. Good shot. Good consolidation.

Right, that's it from me for now. Here is Stephan Shemilt, who has just had his bowl of mixed cereals - Crunchy Nut Cornflakes and Rice Crispies I believe*.

    *Other cereals are available.

I'm watching professional batsmen getting out with horizontal-bat shots to spinners on a wicket that's not turning. If it's not turning... HIT STRAIGHT! It's not rocket science guys.

    Morgan 4, Bairstow 10

Another over, another lbw shout as Morgan is hit on the pad by Jadeja. He was way down the track, though. Just the two runs off the over. A quiet period for the tourists as they dig in.

Ashwin is mixing his pace, making it hard for the batsmen to get into any sort of rhythm.

  16. Eng 120-2published at 23 overs

Huge appeal from Ashwin as Morgan reverse sweeps. Nothing doing. Hit him on the glove. India on top at the moment.

It is a repair job now for these two. They add three singles before Morgan is beaten outside off. Jadeja thinks there is a noise and tries to provoke a review. MS Dhoni shakes it off.

Sam Quigley: Sorry guys, I'll take the blame for that one. Woke up, saw we've made decent start, radio on....wickets.

Kushal Karki: That was a poor innings by Billings. Having a strike rate of 60 after scoring 30+ runs in the modern game is pathetic

  20. Eng 113-2published at 21 overs

As you'd expect, the wickets have completely halted England's momentum and strapped them to the rack. Bairstow takes a risk with a sweep to Ashwin which he misses but survives the lbw shout.
