It has hit him in the chest, just under the armpit. That will have hurt. There was nothing to break the blow.

    Don't rub it, Yuvi!

The left-hander is pinned below the armpit by a sharp delivery from Jake Ball. That hurt the batsman.

Yuvraj, by the way, is closing in on 300 ODI appearances. Not a million miles from spending an entire day of his life playing one-day international cricket. Staggering.

He made his debut in the year 2000, at a time when Mariah Carey and Westlife were topping the charts with an easily forgettable collaboration.

As if Chris Woakes doesn't have enough to deal with while Virat Kohli is at the crease, he gets poked in the eye by a flying insect. Virat doesn't do sympathy though, carving four through point to bring up his team's 50.

The one area England should work on more is to use more bouncers. It is something India used well.

The crowd are keeping themselves occupied by shining the torch on their mobile phones. It's quite a sight when everyone in the ground does it. Like looking at a stand of fireflies. It's slow going from the batsmen by modern standards, hence the distractions.

    Woakes 4-0-25-0

A word of caution for those getting excitable... England haven't had any problems removing the India openers in this series. It's the engine room of Virat, Yuvraj and MS Dhoni which wins games like these in their sleep.

The first two men on that list are together at the crease now, and smiling to each other after Chris Woakes beats the left-handed Yuvraj's outside edge. Twice.

It wasn't that short, which is probably why Rahul got out. It wasn't short enough to pull. The crowd don't seem to mind. Rahul fails for the third time this series. They are just happy to see Yuvraj.

Jake Ball finally has something to smile about. He follows up his woeful display in the second ODI with a horrible ball which Virat Kohli smashes over point but recovers his poise to tempt KL Rahul into a pull shot. The ball balloons in the air and Jos Buttler does the rest behind the sticks.

It is a shame about David Willey. He was bowling well. Shoulders are nasty, as Jimmy Anderson will tell you. And it can take a long time to heal.

David Willey speaks to the physio. Chats to the skipper. And leaves the field, presumably injured (he appeared to hurt his shoulder in his last over).

Chris Jordan is his mighty-fine fielding replacement. Jake Ball takes the ball.

    Kohli 15, Rahul 11

Virat Kohli drills Chris Woakes through the covers for four, then stands back in his crease in preparation for the next delivery.

"You'll have to bowl better than that," his body language screams.

Even though England got 320 in the end it is a more compelling game because the bowlers have hope.

  15. Ind 27-1published at 4 overs

David Willey is keeping things nice and tight - just five being taken off his latest over, all of them coming in ones.

There have been three eras in Indian cricket in the last 20 years. There was the era of Tendulkar with all it's focus and attention and discipline. Then there was the house of Dhoni, which was explosive and attacking. Now there is Kohli, who has the combination of the two.

Do you reckon Virat Kohli has bought a meal in India in the last three years? He really is afforded god-like status - and Chris Woakes is finding out why. Two boundaries through the on side are the magician's opening trick.

I'll be honest. While Willey was rearranging Rahane's timbers, I was 'crafting' an entry bemoaning the left-armer's lack of pace. Shows how little I know.

Virat Kohli strides to the crease supported by the screams and cheers of 65,000 people. Not a bad army to have at your back.

Super bit of bowling. Not great batting. The front foot didn't move. It was a lazy shot to a ball that moved back in. It is uncanny how often David Willey does this with a white ball. It swings for about two overs but he manages to get wickets in that time. It is perfect for England getting Kohli in, in the second over.
