I'm not sure how Sam Billings and Jos Buttler have survived the rest of this Tahir over. They both try their sweeps and reverse sweeps but none are fully convincing.

In the end they pick up a couple of singles and four byes as all the commotion confuses Mosehle behind the stumps.

What a fantastic innings - he executed every shot perfectly until his downfall. He showed power, touch and finesse. Absolutely brilliant.

    Malan c Paterson b Tahir 78 (Eng 127-3)

The end of a brilliant innings on debut from Dawid Malan.

He looks to go big again but for the first time doesn't connect properly and is caught at long on.

Cardiff stands as he walks off. Malan waves his bat in appreciation. Surely we will be seeing more of him in an England shirt.

I like Jos coming in at this stage. He can take a few balls to get his eyes in, assess the pace of the pitch and then there will be a big onslaught.

  6. Eng 123-1published at 13 overs

    Malan 74 Buttler 1

England's captain for the day Jos Buttler strides out to the middle. I bet the first thing he'll be doing is telling Dawid Malan to keep going just like he is on debut.

What can England get here? 123 from 13 overs. Is 200 out of the question with seven wickets left?

It's been a great partnership, but that's largely down to Dawid Malan. Alex Hales has struggled to find his timing and get any tempo or momentum for his innings.

    Hales c Miller b Phehlukwayo 36 (Eng 118-1)

South Africa desperately needed a wicket and get one thanks to a lovely catch from David Miller.

Hales pulls Phehlukwayo hard and flat into the deep but Miller judges it brilliantly to scoop the ball up just above the ground.

This is exhibition batting on debut from Dawid Malan.

  10. Eng 116-1published at 12 overs

    Malan 69 Hales 35

The confidence of Malan on debut is remarkable.

Another cheeky chip over fine leg gives him yet another boundary. That brings up the 100 partnership.

The latest shot was just like the one in the clip below, just this time off an 85mph-quick. Brilliant stuff.

  11. Eng 108-1published at 11.3 overs

Alex Hales has been in the wars today. He was left squirming on the floor earlier after hitting one into his own knee and almost does exactly the same here but this time luckily the ball hits his pad.

This time he finds the middle! Hales gets the golf swing out to loft the ball over Farhaan Behardien on the mid on rope for another maximum.

Eoin Morgan speaking about Dawid Malan on Sky Sports: "He looks very relaxed. He's been around a long time and scored a lot of runs at Middlesex in all three forms. We've given him an opportunity today and part and parcel of him developing is taking that opportunity."

On not playing Craig Overton: "We haven't managed to fit him in. That would have meant Jos would have had to miss out. We would have been burnt at the stake if Jos missed out. We see Craig as a genuine all-rounder who can play the role of a Stokes or Ali."

  13. Eng 99-1published at 11 overs

    Malan 60, Hales 27

    Four more!

It's debutante Malan again, crunching his ninth four down the ground.

He's also hit two sixes, one of them straight back over Morne Morkel's head and into the stands...

England will want to get another 90 runs from here, they'll want a score of about 180 and that would be par.

  15. Eng 94-1published at 10.3 overs

    It's all going England's way.

Morkel does little wrong in bowling one full outside off stump but Hales jabs down on it and the ball races for four past the outstretched gloves of the 'keeper.

  18. 50 runs

50 on debut for Malanpublished at 10 overs

    Eng 79-1

    Brilliant from Malan.

What a player England have found here.

He brings up his 50 with a flick over his shoulder for four past short fine leg. And another four!

Malan is flying. He's now got the highest score for an England batsman on their T20 debut.

Eng 79-1published at 15:20 British Summer Time 25 June 2017

    Malan 47 Hales 21

    Terrible bowling but that's huge!

Tahir bowls a full-toss to start a new over to Hales and the opener heaves him for six over mid-wicket.

That'll hurt the South Africans even more since they've already missed one chance to dismiss Hales...

  20. Eng 73-1published at 9 overs

    Malan 47 Hales 14

As James says this has been incredibly impressive on debut from Malan.

Six fours and two sixes already to his name and he's not looking bothered in the slightest who he attacks. Morkel? Tahir? Morris? Just doesn't care.
