We have a change but it is not a spinner. Joe Root returns to Stuart Broad, who has claimed two of the four South African wickets to fall this innings. Like all other bowlers in the last hour or so, he offers little threat as South Africa creep to 200 and deserved round of applause.

My thoughts from an England perspective is I would like a spinner on from one end at least. There is not much at all there for the seamers. Wood, the quickest bowler available, banged one into the pitch and De Bruyn just stood there and rather majestically hit it for four.

De Bruyn is very, very, very, very Nick Compton in technique, just scores a tad quicker!

    Jeremy, still at school

Lovely stuff from Bavuma, who rolls his wrists to flick a leg-stump delivery from Anderson fine and away for four.

It's getting to the point where Joe Root might bring himself on to bowl a few of his lollipops. He has a bit of a habit of getting wickets and if you get somebody out it doesn't matter what you bowl. Batsmen can sometimes lose concentration against those bowlers.

De Bruyn looks authoritative now. He latches on to a short ball from Wood and smashes it over Jennings at midwicket for four.

Hugo Walford: Was very surprised by the selection of De Bruyn over Chris Morris, but cannot see Morris constructing a Test innings like this.

De Bruyn looks much more confident and relaxed in the last half hour.

This ball has 60 overs under its belt now and it is offering little movement or threat to this Proteas pair.

Jimmy continues to charge in but he is looking increasingly forlorn.

All it needs is a breakthrough, though. By weight of runs, England remain in charge.

To answer the question of which bowler with 100 or more Test wickets has the highest percentage of deliveries hit for four - it is Steven Finn with 8.6%.

The over-rate is atrocious but the quality of the product is excellent. The over-rate is around four; it was never that when I played.

England looking a bit ragged now. Wood steers a ball down leg and Bairstow allows the ball to slip through his grasp for two byes.

Bavuma shows a rare lack of restraint later in the over as he swings widly and misses a short, wide ball.

Here is Wood's reviewed and failed lbw appeal against De Bruyne from the previous over...

I don't know why they wouldn't pick Rashid, confidence is high, he has bowled well in the one-dayers. I don't mind things when I can see what the selectors are thinking but I am really puzzled.

Anderson is back as Joe Root shuffles his pack again in search of a partnership-breaking moment. It doesn't come, though. Bavuma looks rock solid in his defence.

Playing at Lord's can be awkward because of the slope, which does affect the angle that the ball comes at you. I think De Bruyn has done alright but he has to be careful. He has batted nicely and in the 30s you can think you're in, but you're not, so he musn't give it away.

  17. SA 185-4published at 17:45 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

Wood is more of a threat as he probes at pace outside off stump. De Bruyn and Bavuma are in now, though, and England look weary.

7.93% of the balls Ben Stokes bowls go for four.

Stokes has wonderful ability to swing the ball, cut it, to reverse it. What he needs to do is harness it a bit more and find the line and length to bowl it so he squeezes pressure more.

A gift from Stokes. He veers down leg and is flicked for four by De Bruyn. Bavuma then flashes at a wide, short ball to earn another boundary.

Stokes has been poor so far today with the ball.
