Isaac Christopher: JP Duminy is a cricketer who's been around for an awfully long time but doesn't seem to have done an awful lot.

Andy Cook: I think Moeen seems to get his wickets when there's less expectation on him to do so.

  2. SA 107-4published at 16:27 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Bavuma 2, De Bruyn 2

De Bruyn beaten. He didn't judge that at all. Offered a stiff, straight bat and played right inside Moeen's delivery, which skips past off stump.

Bavuma looks more comfortable. He drops to one knee and sweeps hard for one.

Spencer Dawdry: South African middle order relatively soft, England will wrap this up with SA under 300!

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

Looked pretty out to me, it skidded into him and hit the front pad around the knee-rool. A great little session for England.

Theunis de Bruyn, with one Test under his belt and a highest score of 12, strides out to the crease. He is off the mark with a single, via a prod to leg.

Bavuma is then fortunate as one stays low and nearly creeps under his bat. I say stays low... this is Bavuma, so it almost bounces him.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

Duminy lbw Broad 15 (SA 104-4)

Out! Marcus Mumford - currently a guest in the TMS box - offers a small "yes!" as Broad gets a ball to jag back and trap Duminy bang in front. That is gone all day long. England on a roll.

There is a bit of grip, it is staying low and Proteas are on the ropes. Moeen is causing problems. It takes all of Duminy's skill and restraint to see him off. He keeps strike with a steered single - the only run of the over.

Ian B: For the foreseeable the second name on the England team sheet after Root should be Moeen Ali, priceless with bat and ball.

Cabrito: Moeen is a better all rounder than Ben Stokes.

  9. SA 103-3published at 16:16 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Duminy 14, Bavuma 1

It is a total physical mismatch between Broad and Bavuma but the latter's eye and technique helps see out a scoreless over. Broad is mainly in the corridor but the SA number five shoulders arms watchfully.

Moeen Ali is the second quickest England player to 2,000 runs and 100 wickets, after Tony Greig. He is the fifth fastest from any country.

  11. SA 103-3published at 16:12 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

Temba Bavuma is the new man. The little fella has had a couple of scores this year - two 50s in New Zealand. Averaging just over 30. Duminy finds the rope, but only because of a shocking bit of fielding from Mark Wood.

    Andrew Samson

Moeen is the seventh England player to take 100 wickets and score 2,000 runs and he joins Ravi Shastri as the only player to get his 100th wicket and 2,000th run in the same match.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Elgar c Ballance b Moeen 54 (SA 98-3)

Moeen strikes! It is a full ball and Elgar prods at it, edging into his pads and then up to short-leg Ballance, who holds on through a combination of arms and chest.

That's 100 Test wickets for the spinner, in the same game that he brought up his 2,000th run!

  14. SA 98-2published at 16:05 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Elgar 54, Duminy 10

An edge! Duminy catches a nick but, as with so many deliveries in this game, it fails to carry to a healthy England slip cordon. It is the only real excitement during the first over of today's final session.

  15. Postpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

Thanks Jamie. That second session was more intriguing than explosive. If South Africa have their way, it will remain low-key for the rest of the day. It is up to England to set some fireworks off.

Stuart Broad is first up for the home side...

OK, time for the final session. The players are heading out into the sunshine and over to Phil Dawkes to describe it to you.

Four fielders crouch round the bat as Moeen bowls to Elgar but the South Africa captain retains a dead bat and heads off to the pavilion with his side in a respectable position. A reminder that the T20 Blast begins tonight and there will be commentary on 5 live sports extra at the conclusion of the Test.

Carl Carritt: Dawson justifying his selection. Scores a duck, and gives away more lollipops than Robert Helpmann in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Richard Pettinger: Like everyone else is saying - what has Adil done or not done to get left out in favour of Dawson?

He has wonderful hands, JP Duminy. Hopefully that driven four will help build his confidence and he can get his feet moving.
