Wood's extra pace causes some problems. Bavuma has to duck underneath a short ball and then fends off a couple that are a tad fuller. A good over.
Geoffrey Boycott
Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special
You can't give him out because 90% of the crowd want a wicket. It was hitting the stump less than 50%. Both of them have played really well, I've been impressed with Bavuma.
SA 168-4
Umpire's call. The ball was clipping leg stump but the majority of the ball was missing. Close but no cigar. As you were.

BBC cricket correspondent on TMS
Wood reviewed as he was on the ground, I don't think I've ever seen that before.
De Bruyn on 31 (SA 168-4)
Mark Wood offers a big appeal from the floor after tumbling in his follow-through. The umpire shakes his head to the lbw shout against De Bruyn but Root goes upstairs. It looks like it might be close, possibly going down.
Graeme Smith
Ex-South Africa captain on BBC Test Match Special
England have managed to create pressure and not allow South Africa to score runs at the rate they did themselves. I like the pitch - there is a nice balance between bat and ball. It's great to see bowlers having more opportunity - Test cricket needs that. If the weather stays hot we will see it dry a bit more and spinners will come into play.
De Bruyn 31, Bavuma 31
I wouldn't forgive fans for having a little snooze now, especially if they've tucked into a beer or two this afternoon. It is a hazy summer evening and the game is pottering along with South Africa battling back slowly.
There is a minor stir from the stands, followed by a groan as Bavuma cuts Stokes aerially and just past the diving Anderson. To call it a catch opportunity almost defies human capability. The ball was past him before he knew it and skips away for four.

Dawson 8-1-45-0
Dawson isn't posing much of a threat and he's also struggling to tie this pair down. De Bruyn tries to hit him down the ground, but is denied by a diving fielder, only to succeed at the second attempt for a one-bounce four.
Andrew Samson
BBC Test Match Special statistician
The fifty partnership came from 93 balls.

Stokes hammers his way to the crease for another over but his effort alone is not enough to make the breakthrough. Bavuma capitalises on another full ball, which he drives for four to take the partnership to 50.

Michael Shaw: Stokes is an all-rounder in the sense that he is good enough as either a batsman or a bowler. Dawson is the opposite. Bad call.
Simey Cook: Hate the fact that people are judging Dawson after only a day and a half of the Test match. Let's get through the series first.
Graeme Smith
Ex-South Africa captain on BBC Test Match Special
Stokes and Ali are proper all-rounders and I guess it allows you options, but Dawson still looks a bit in between that.
Bavuma almost makes a fatal error by setting off for a single after edging Dawson towards third man. The fielder is in short, though, and the batsman has to scamper back into his ground to beat the throw.
Stephan Shemilt
BBC Sport at Lord's
The Lord's hum, that constant murmur of conversation, gives you reason to believe that the patrons are not invested in the action. Not a bit of it. Even the slightest hint of an England chance - Bavuma almost bowled by Moeen, De Bruyn play-and-miss at Stokes - brings a mini eruption before the din is restored.
Shot, Bavuma. He plants his front foot and drives Stokes past the diving man at cover for four.
These two are edging towards a fifty partnership. They've put on 42 so far together.

A better over from Dawson that keeps De Bruyne in check, but the South Africa batsman is playing with intent now, where as before he was clinging on with his fingernails.
Graeme Smith
Ex-South Africa captain on BBC Test Match Special
Bavuma has had some key performances. Maybe consistency has been lacking over the last five to eight Test matches. He certainly has the ability.
