It's amazing what you see on your way to Lord's.
You won't like him when he's angry...

Root had more than his share of good fortune but even so this is a wonderful way for him to stamp his authority on his new role.
England needed his runs too. They were 76-4 and definitely wobbling, but after that encouraging start, South Africa were disappointing, lacking sparkle and energy, which had also been very evident in their fielding practice before the match.
Root and Stokes batted all afternoon, turning the innings around and Moeen played some handsome cover drives in his half century.
But the early batting was poor, Cook (three), Jennings (eight), Bairstow (10), with Ballance trapped lbw deep in the crease for 20 and failing to secure his promotion to number three.
If yesterday wasn't already centered around Joe Root as a result of his debut bow as England captain, the Yorkshire batsman made sure that he took every headline going with a magnificent unbeaten 184 to steer the hosts from disaster to control.
Arriving at the crease with England 17-2, the 26-year-old then saw them slump to 74-4. But Root steadied the ship with Ben Stokes and then made hay with Moeen Ali as England closed on 357-5.
It was yet another Root 'hold my beer, I got this...' moment.
Now THIS is how you lead by example...
