    Thanks Jamie.

Crikey. Hands up who saw that coming?

England go from 139-1 to 182-8 at lunch.

The game has certainly moved on a fair bit. I'd be getting twitchy if I had tickets for tomorrow.

Lets start this lunch break by having a look at a few highlights. Warning - it is not pretty England fans.

The draw is out of the equation. South Africa might as well really try and put the bowlers under pressure and be positive.

They might as well have a really good dash.

Imagine if Cooky hadn't played such a belligerent and staid innings. We'd be faltering at 49-5 now with a slender lead of 137 and pressure mounting. Brilliant anchoring by one of the world's best.

South Africa have given themselves a glimmer of hope. In the back of England's mind will always be a player like Quinton de Kock.

    Eng 182-8

The end of a remarkable session. We have had 25 overs and England have lost seven wickets for 43. Jonny is still there on 28 and they will hope he can add a few lusty blows this afternoon. We have no idea what the pitch will do next, it's fascinating stuff, an ideal return for Test cricket, and Matt Henry will take you through the afternoon.

It has been calypso collapso for England this morning.

I don't think Joe will have to bother with a declaration. A turning one into the left-hander and Broad nudges it to short leg where De Bruyn takes a sharp chance to his left. England have lost seven wickets for 63 this morning. The lead is 279, is it enough?

Why is Dawson in this team? He offers nothing.

You don't practice these deliveries. Why would you?

It is a long, lonely walk off for Liam Dawson.

Incredulity from one very senior journalist in the press box. "What are they checking? It's knocked his middle pole out!"

    Dawson b Rabada 0 (Eng 181-7)

Dramatic scenes, the middle stump cartwheels five yards out of the ground. It is a full toss and Dawson has not seen it. The Hampshire spinner is in a state of shock as he stomps disconsolately back to the pavilion having completed a pair. After the sunshine of the last few days there are some dark clouds around but the light is not that bad. It hit the top of the middle stump on the full, devastating.

Beautiful bowling. Maharaj sensed Moeen was coming down and tossed it a little bit wider and a little bit slower.

It is great to see a spinner out-think a batsman.

    Moeen b Maharaj 7 (Eng 180-6)

Bairstow had delighted the crowd with some fabulous counter-attacking against Maharaj that produced three boundaries. There was also the obligatory ironic cheer for Philander when he fielded a single but silence again when Moeen came down the track and was bowled through the gate. The lead is 277.

This is the first time in the match I've seen the picnic area at the Nursery End empty. In case you're wondering, the cheapest bottle of champagne will set you back £75.

    Lead by 264

Bairstow looking busy, he's one of my favourite current cricketers. He has had a reprieve on seven with that remarkable drop by Philander but he steers Rabada away for a single to keep the scoreboard moving and retain the strike.

I think Philander might be blaming spider cam but he just takes his eye off the ball.

It was a routine one, Philander on the boundary as Bairstow lofted Maharaj. He got under it perfectly, but whether it was that taped up hand affecting him I don't know, it went in and straight out again, over the ropes for four. Some choice reactions from his colleagues and the crowd.

  20. How's stat?!published at 12:36 British Summer Time 9 July 2017

    Andy Zaltzman
    BBC Test Match Special statistician

There have only been three successful chases of over 200 at Lord's.

The West Indies' 344-1 in 1984, England's 282-3 against New Zealand in May 2004 and also England's 218-3 against New Zealand in 1965.

There has only been one score over 300 in the last 22 fourth innings at Lord's.
