Moeen for a couple of overs before lunch...?

Broad and Anderson are two high quality bowlers, up for the challenge. They fancy it. Therefore, as a batsman, your technique has to be spot on. This is as good as Broad has bowled in this series.

    England need eight wickets

Toby Roland-Jones is in for his first over of the day and immediately there is a blemish on his bowling figures.

Temba Bavuma opens up his bat and edges a four to third man. It went low so even a flying Ben Stokes would have struggled to get his hand on that.

England have a short leg and a fielding arch of wicketkeeper, four slips and gully.

And we were asking if Joe Root would be attacking in his captaincy or not.

Broad bowled a corker of a delivery earlier in this innings and Hashim Amla was just still in the crease, he was never like that. He needs to get forward or back, simple. He's still a good player, but he's just not the same force.

    Broad 7-4-9-1

The gangly-legged Broad gallops in and throws down six cherries to Hashim Amla, who has ground to a halt... or is he just waiting to see the bowler off.

    Amla update: Balls faced - 32. Runs - 2.

Pure Test match cricket at the moment. Batsmen digging in, bowlers probing, very few runs.

    Look away Alex Hales.

Chris: Does anyone remember Matt Bell for NZ? He was hopeless but found a way versus England to get runs (in the end).

Anderson and Broad are firing here.

A Jimmy delivery kisses the surface and straightens Hashim Amla up, leaving his feet, chest and bat facing the umpire.

Geoffrey Boycott on comms is loving that.

That was a gorgeous delivery from Stuart Broad, a beauty. It's almost like an 85mph spinner.

    Broad 6-3-9-1

    Millimetres from a third wicket.

Stuart Broad smiles as he knows he has given Temba Bavuma a pearler here, but the ball misses the bat by a whisker.

Broad getting into a rhythm where he looks like he can knock the opposition over for next to nothing and it's another maiden.

RJ: When was the last time England's number eight top-scored in both innings?

We asked TMS statistician Andrew Samson that very question on your behalf, RJ. It's the first time it's happened for England and only the fifth time it's happened overall.

    Anderson 6-2-10-1

Temba Bavuma is the next man in.

His highest score on the tour has been 59 in his first innings in the first Test at Lord's.

Bavuma gets a single by clips one off his pads to deep backward square leg.

Half an hour to lunch, can England nick another?

Kuhn's technique was exposed. He was neither forward or back. It's been coming, good bowling from Anderson and Broad. You get a sense that with South Africa, at the end of a long tour, it could end quite ugly for them.

    Kuhn c Cook b Anderson 11 (SA 18-2)

    Off he goes.

Heino Kuhn looked like he was getting his eye in, but then came Jimmy Anderson.

A lovely, full, swinging delivery, Kuhn prods his bat at it and former skipper Alastair Cook stoops to gobble the catch up at first slip.

    Kuhn 11, Amla 2

    Runs, we have runs. Hallelujah!

Broad's radar is a little off this time and Kuhn capitalises by nudging a couple of runs past point.

Another tasty drive from Kuhn for three more and Amla is off the mark too.

These two are starting to tee-off.

South Africa have done well just to lose the one wicket, plenty of balls have been flying around. It's just beautiful seam position from Anderson.

England are bowling well to Amla. His mindset is purely to see off Broad and Anderson.

    Anderson 5-2-9-0

I'm going to stop putting "SA need 380 runs to win" in the above heading now, it's not going to happen.

    Hashim Amla: Faced balls - 17. Runs - 0.

Jimmy Anderson keeping it tight. Guess what? Maiden.

SA need 380 to win, England need nine wickets

Just a matter of time before Heino Kuhn can go put his feet up.

A flash at a wide Stuart Broad delivery and completely missed. Broad gives a bit of chat, presumably saying, "Mate, you're having a mare."

South Africa are stuck here, another maiden over, or are they just digging in?

Theo Bowyer: Writing's on the wall for SA here... they'll do well to survive today at this rate with the ball zipping around.

Antony Molinari: Runs on the board, wicket doing a bit, overcast conditions - all adds up to Anderson & Broad being pretty unplayable.
