There's been a bit of a gulf between England's bowlers. We usually see it with their batsmen but Jimmy Anderson has been a lot better than the rest, who have been straining so far.

This partnership between Brathwaite and Hope is the first West Indies partnership to be worth 50 or more so far in the series.

So improved bowling yesterday and improved batting today. Game on.

Wound, meet salt. The very next ball after overturning that lbw decision, Brathwaite battered Moeen Ali into the stands to bring up his half-century.

This kid's got nerve. An intriguing afternoon session awaits.

Brathwaite has also made good use of DRS this morning. Twice incorrectly given out lbw, twice reviewing successfully.

The first one to Broad, the opener got an inside edge on...

The second one to Mooen Ali was much closer - in fact ball tracking showed the ball was clattering into middle stump.

But the ball had struck him outside the line of off-stump and, due to the vagaries of cricket's law, that means the opener was not out.

With Anderson out of the attack, England struggled somewhat - particularly a ragged Broad.

Woakes also suffered at the hands of Brathwaite...

...though the Brummie all-rounder was also bowling some nice stuff on his return from injury...

If Bishoo's wicket was a routine catch, this was far from it.

England's Mr Competence, Joe Root, diving to his left to snaffle Kyle Hope with a terrific catch of a fast-moving ball.

Anderson strikes again - and at this stage it looked like he might reach 500 Test wickets by lunch.

Nightwatchman Devendra Bishoo may have returned to the crease this morning dreaming he could defy the odds and bat deep into the day.

It was not to be - England and specifically Jimmy Anderson not wasting too much effort in removing the promoted tailender...

    Cheers, Matt.

Off he strides in search of cocoa bean goodness. He cycled in today so deserves the calories. Wonder what bar he will choose?

That was a quality morning of Test cricket - fancy reviewing it with video clips and that? Sound.

And with that I am off to eat my sandwiches and find something chocolaty from the BBC canteen.

Jack Skelton will take you through some highlights and the start of the afternoon session.

Broad is no longer the man. Too many bad overs, no runs and lazy in the field. Anderson, Woakes, wood and Roland Jones should be planning a trip down under.

An interesting session and one of two halves.

James Anderson was brilliant first up and took two wickets but since then Kraigg Brathwaite and Shai Hope have added 74 very nicely and head for lunch unbeaten.

Broad, Woakes, Stokes and Moeen have created chances but haven't been as economical as Jimmy while the review system has saved the West Indies batsmen a couple of times.

That's a good session for West Indies - 90-2, including a nightwatchman. England will sense they should have got more - they beat the bat so many times but didn't quite catch the edge.

Brathwaite was also reprieved and has looked good. Shai Hope looks to be a decent player - I'd hazard a guess this is one of his best Test innings so far.

    "Ooooooooh".

Gasps on the final ball of the session as Hope goes back to Moeen and edges but the ball drops short of Stokes at slip.

A good session for the West Indies. They have added 90 runs.

England have been decent but things have just not quite gone their way.

It's bad enough when you bowl a delivery that's hitting middle stump and the batsman survives on impact...

...it's worse when that same batsman hits you for six off the very next ball to bring up a half century.

Root is showing no sign of worrying about the West Indies total as he keeps four slips in to Stokes after that edge.

Stokes is still looking like he could take a wicket but England have conceded 72 from 15 overs since Anderson came out of the attack.

Broad is the main culprit for that though, rather than Stokes. We'll have one more over before lunch.

Since that lbw reprieve, Brathwaite's just thought, "Here we go, I'm going to play a few shots."

Another edge but this one flies over Root's head and the skipper had no chance at second slip.

It was a full ball from Stokes and Brathwaite threw his hands at the drive to collect another streaky four.

When do we consider West Indies could indeed get a lead?

West Indies will really need a lead but there on track at the moment and there may be plenty there for the stroke-makers down the order like Blackwood.

West Indies move past the 100 mark with a four through the covers from Hope. They'll be thrilled with this morning session. The Windies have only lost one frontline batsman, remember, so far this morning.

Where at Edgbaston every good delivery found the edge, today the West Indies batsman have played and missed and picked up boundaries off the bad balls.

Moeen is still searching for that extravagant spin of a couple of overs ago.

The sun is threatening to break through as Headingley which I am sure will further boost the morale of West Indies. Stokes is still causing problems with his inswinger and Hope just gets his bat down on the ball to steal a single from a good delivery.

Stokes stands with his hands on his head.

Now the all-rounder is angry with himself. He kicks the turf as he bowls a leg stump half volley and Hope collects three.
