I'm sorry but they are the rules however strange it may be.
England are creating chances but West Indies are adding runs nicely to their total. Brathwaite comes down the pitch again to Moeen and this time it is a one-bounce four. I think he fancies the off-spinner.
This is really good Test cricket.

C Harvey: Baffled. If a review confirms a leg only prevents the ball knocking over the stumps, why does it matter where it hits the leg?

Stokes wants this one but captain Root has turned his back on him. Good decision - it was a big nick.
It is all going on. Stokes hits Hope on the pad with his inswinger. This time he is convinced and wants a review. Bowler, captain and wicketkeeper come together. There is a bit of doubt around whether Hope got an inside edge and the replays show he did. Good decision again from Root and umpire Gaffaney.

That's an absolute snorter of a ball. They all went up behind but Stokes didn't move - I don't think the bowler heard a noise.
That's a beaut from Stokes. A big appeal from behind the wicket but nothing from the bowler. He didn't hear anything.
"Was it back pad?" says Bairstow to Root.
Again they decide against a review.

I like Kraigg Brathwaite - if he was English he would be in our Test team.

Haha well he's had a go hasn't he? To dance down the pitch after seeing a ball spin like that.
Brathwaite 52, S Hope 25
And how does Brathwaite respond to that close call? By thudding Moeen for a big six over the leg side!
Great batting. It brings up a very good battling half century from 89 balls.
He has lived dangerously at times but fully deserves this and his team will be delighted.

It's hitting his middle stump but it's somehow managed to hit him outside the line!
The ball was going to knock over middle stump but it did indeed make contact with Kraigg Brathwaite's pads outside the line.
For the second time umpire S Ravi has to reverse his decision.

That really did turn - it's got him on the back foot. He's going to review though...
Big spin from Moeen and the ball thuds into the pads. England appeal and the umpire gives it.
Outside the line?
It is going to be a double change as Moeen Ali gets a warm round of applause as his name is called out over the PA system.
The Western Terrace needs a spark to get back into this one.
Kraigg Brathwaite is approaching 50 - he's already been given out this morning, but was saved by an inside edge

There is a change but at the Kirkstall Lane end as Ben Stokes replaces Chris Woakes.
You'd fancy Stokes would enjoy these conditions and have a boost from his century yesterday.
I'll put his first over down as one to loosen off as it is a little inconsistent and not particularly threatening.

Chris: Absolute garbage from Broad. TRJ would have been so much better in these conditions.
Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special
West Indies have done remarkably well this morning - they've only lost one top order player and the ball has been zipping about.

Still Root persists with Broad despite the seamer's radar failing him. He almost repays the skipper early in the over with a dangerous delivery that jags back but then once again bowls on the batsman's hip and Hope punishes him.
Wide outside off stump to finish. Time for a change?
