  1. WI 42-3published at 24 overs

    Brathwaite 27, S Hope 6

Woakes has just played the one first class match since his side injury so it would be no surprise if he was a little rusty.

He's looking for the full length but occasionally drops too short and Brathwaite is happy to linger on the back foot.

This won't encourage Woakes to pitch it up. The final ball is the best of the over but Brathwaite nicks the ball wide of the slips for four.

  2. WI 36-3published at 23 overs

Shai Hope only has one score over 50 in his 12 Tests. Good luck young man. His best is a 90 against Pakistan earlier this year at Bridgetown, Barbados.

I didn't watch that innings but I doubt the ball was moving as far as Anderson has it going this morning.

After all the praise, Jimmy bowls a rare leg side delivery and Hope gets off the mark with a single.

I know which end I'd rather be at this morning. That is no insult to Chris Woakes but there is nothing harder to face than Anderson at Headingley at his best.

Jimmy has a word of advice for his bowling counterpart but the wisdom hasn't been passed on as of yet.

Woakes is a tad short to Brathwaite.

Benjamin Buckley‏: Jimmy Anderson must be the only person in the world who opens his curtains in the morning and is overjoyed to see clouds!

Charlie Rhodes: Absolute masterclass from Jimmy! Serious swing bowling! 500 wickets this innings anyone?

Rachel T: Just startled Washington Services on the A1 with a rendition of "WHOAH JIMMY JIMMY!"

At Headingley you must pitch it up - it doesn't have the pace of some pitches so the batsman can stay on the back foot and have time to play it.

Once you pitch it up you get the batsman tentative and prodding forward and that's what happened there. And it was a terrific catch.

If they bowl well and catch well - 258 will be enough for England here.

The crowd gasp as the replays of that catch are shown on the big screen. Jimmy has been brilliant. He has bowled five overs with two wickets for four runs this morning. Hope was all at say for that wicket-taking delivery.

Kyle's younger brother Shai Hope is the new batsman.

That's a fabulous catch from Joe Root away to his left in two hands. He's snaffled that - it went so quickly.

    495 wickets and counting...

It's big full inswinger from Anderson but he has to give Joe Root a big pat on the back for this one.

It is a terrific diving catch from the skipper at second slip. I think it might have stung his hands a little. That went quickly.

Big swing from Woakes - I think today might be his day with the shape he's getting.

A frustrating morning spell for Broad is over as he is replaced by Chris Woakes.

The Wawrickshire man bowled just the one over last night as he makes his return from a side injury. His pace will be of interest today as we asses whether he is back to full fitness.

It is a fine first over in the early 80mph with plenty of swing. He bowled a couple of beautiful away swingers but they were too good for Hope and missed the outside edge.

Dave Wood: I have Lord's tickets, so if Jimmy could take no more than five wickets for the remainder of the Test it would be appreciated.

  12. Anderson removes Bishoopublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 26 August 2017

The wicket was perhaps Anderson's worst ball of the morning but it was good enough to see the back of nightwatchman Devendra Bishoo.

  13. WI 32-2published at 19 overs

    Brathwaite 25, K Hope 1

Anderson has the ball on a string this morning. Broad has bowled a couple on the right-hander's hip but there has been nothing of the sort from Jimmy.

Kyle Hope gets off the mark with a single into the off side but Anderson is bowling a good line and length outside off stump.

Brathwaite is living dangerously to Broad as he edges another full delivery but this one drops well short of Cook at first slip.

Once again Broad stands halfway down the pitch and glares at his opponent.

Brathwaite isn't interested in the staring contest. He turns away. The opener is battling away well.

  16. WI 31-2published at 17 overs

    Anderson 9-6-5-2

Kyle Hope is the new man at number four.

For now the pitch is bathed in sunshine but there is a very threatening black cloud above the imposing Headingley pavilion.

Hopefully the rain will stay away.

It was a bit of a short and wide one from Anderson and Bishoo nicked off. It's often the way with nightwatchman - don't waste your good balls on them, bowl them a pie.

It was only a matter of time. England will be pleased - they haven't wasted too much energy getting rid of the nightwatchman.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 16.4 overs

    Bishoo c Bairstow b Anderson 1 (WI 31-2)

To say this was coming is an understatement.

Anderson beats Bishoo all ends up with three beauties to start the over but can't find the edge. The fourth ball isn't too good a delivery but Bishoo can't resist a swish and he nicks a cut through to Bairstow.

    494 Test wickets for Jimmy...
