And Malan calmly sees off the final ball of the day.

What a day that has been. Those two Jimmy Anderson wickets seem a long time ago don't they?

    England are effectively 2-3.

Don't run yourself out now, Dawid. He drops the ball into the leg side and perhaps wants to be at the non-striker's end for the final few balls as he heads off for a single. Root rightfully sends him back and Malan holds his hand up to apologise.

That's better. Malan pushes two down the ground and England lead with one ball remaining.

Dawid Malan has batted well and has been the perfect foil for Joe Root

    Scores level!!

Now a no ball and with Root knocking a single off it as well England have parity.

    Will this over ever end?

This will definitely be the last over. Gabriel starts with a wide and then bangs one in way down and it sails way over the head of Dowrich for five more wides.

England could nudge into the lead tonight.

A better finish from Bishoo. He held his hand up to apologise to his short leg fielder after that half tracker which was good to see because it really was awful.

Five minutes left. Root is stalling the play by tying his shoelaces and doing some gardening. Does he want this over to be the last?

After just one over earlier Devendra Bishoo is back. One over from your frontline spinner in the second innings of a Test? Strange.

Maybe this is why. A freebie that pitches halfway down the pitch and Malan swats it for four.

    That got what it deserved.

Like the first day, Gabriel isn't quite a threatening in his spell late in the day.

Root is able to tick along as he loves to do and he's into the 40s. Less than 10 minutes for England to battle through now until the end of the day.

Their chances will look a whole lot healthier if Root is still there.

West Indies will know what Joe Root is capable of. They didn't need the below boundary to remind them.

That's why they were so happy to have him out lbw only to be disappointed as the decision was overturned.

This is a dispiriting period for West Indies as England claw their way to parity. This could be crucial with England's powerful lower order.

  11. Eng 155-3published at 56.1 overs

    Root 42, Malan 15

West Indies have been sloppy in the last 15 minutes so Holder turns to Gabriel to put some fright back in the bowling.

No change of momentum. Root guides one to the third man fence.

And more byes! Amazing scenes. Again this one is really difficult for Dowrich, swinging away after the bat in front of first slip.

The 150 is brought up with a clip to fine leg. This stand has been crucial. They brought up the 50 partnership in the previous over by the way.

A group of supporters in the crowd a currently piling 15 or so hats on top of one gentleman's head before topping it with a policeman's hat. I must admit they've lost me with that one.

  14. Eng 146-3published at 55 overs

    Root 36, Malan 13

More byes. Dowrich is having a shocker.

To be fair this one from Chase keeps very low and scuttles through the wicketkeeper's legs for four.

Shane Dowrich is discovering England is the hardest place to keep in the world. It's because the Dukes ball often moves late after passing the stumps.

West Indies have been excellent today but not quite up to scratch with the reviews. Remember had they reviewed a caught behind off Malan earlier he would have been out but this time the appeal always looked desperate.

Holder is bowling well though, He's still getting this old ball to swing.

Dowrich behind the stumps, not so good. The 'keeper lets through another bye.

It's almost like West Indies went for that in hope rather than expectation.

No bat and the impact was in line but the ball was only clipping leg stump. It's umpires call and Malan lives to fight another day.

That's West Indies out of reviews as well.

My gut feeling is that's definitely missing leg.

More work for the third umpire...

Holder from round the wicket gets one past Malan's bat and onto his pad.

The angle is against the bowler but Malan was a long way across. The umpire shakes his head but was it hitting leg stump?
