That startles me. I think everyone will be of the same mind as myself and Geoffrey that was a no-ball. England are in all sorts of bother.

Both batsmen reprieved - Root dropped & overturns lbw dismissal

Stoneman b Gabriel 52 (Eng 94-3)
Bowled him! Oh wait!! Has he?
Shannon Gabriel has been pushing the front line all day.
It looks like the back of his big boot is on the line. Will this be overturned?
No!! It's given! The crowd boo. Stoneman is on his way.

I don't mind if Joe Root doesn't score many runs, as long as he's there at lunch tomorrow. He'll have a few by then if he can get there.

And now Root gets off the mark. West Indies have kept almost everything outside off stump to the Yorkshireman but Roach strays leg side and Root whips it for four.
It took him 21 balls to score a run. The second longest wait he has had in Test cricket.
A run!
Finally England break the run of dots with a pull down to fine leg from Stoneman.

Shannon Gabriel is not as quick in this spell. He was regularly bowling in excess of 90mph in his first spell, but he's down to 84mph now.

Nervy times as Root almost skews a leading edge to the slips. The sun is out but batting still looks treacherous.
The West Indies are doing a great job of keeping the pressure on. The fielder at gully stretches full length to keep Root on nought.
Five maidens in a row...
Stoneman 51, Root 0
What did Strauss and Flower used to say? Build the dots and a wicket will come?
It was something like that. A fourth maiden in a row from West Indies.
As a result the crowd have become distracted. "Feed the snake," is the chant as the stack of beer glasses stretches across the Western Terrace.
This was the moment Mark Stoneman reached his first Test fifty.
He has looked very good so far.

I'm conscious that the next two batsmen are left-handers, bringing the off-spinner into the game with the rough.
That's an absolute beauty from Gabriel to Root. He's beaten all ends up but luckily doesn't edge behind.
The wicket of England's skipper is surely key here. Do England have any chance if Root falls before the close?
He looks calm but still can't get off the mark. Three consecutive maidens from the West Indies.

I don't think England are capable - they have too many iffy batsmen who don't deal well with pressure - but if they can score 360, they have a great chance of victory.
That Westley dismissal came after a crazy few minutes.
First Stoneman was hit on the finger by Jason Holder and look in serious pain.
An over later West Indies somehow managed to mess up what looked a simple run out with Westley inexplicably turning down a second run.
The shriek you can hear when Devendra Bishoo misses the stumps is quite something.

England can breath a slight sigh of relief. They have seen the back of Jason Holder. Not a couple of sentences I ever thought I'd write.
Kemar Roach is back. Like this morning he starts economically with another maiden but Stoneman wasn't in danger.

James Duffin: Westley needs some form. England should use a sub fielder for rest of the Test and send him to Essex tomorrow to help them to Championship glory.
Stoneman 51, Root 0
Shannon Gabriel is back into the attack with Joe Root at the crease.
He bowls a good over and the England skipper can't get off the mark.
It doesn't look any better on second watch.
Here is the dismissal of Tom Westley. Let us know what you make of it at #bbccricket.

Stoneman hasn't been flustered by that near run-out. It must be a nice feeling to get that first fifty.
