    Root 18, Malan 6

Root flicks another four through the leg side and with every boundary Kyle Hope must be feeling worse and worse.

It's getting lively in the crowd. The beer snake is gone but the "don't take me home" chant is starting.

Jonathan Jackson: England are going to waltz this - we lost the third wicket for 94... it's been less than 50 for the last four and a half years!

  3. Eng 110-3published at 45 overs

    Root 14, Malan 6

I'm not sure about that one. Everyone gets dropped at times and it would be a very difficult job to judge everyone by the opportunities they give.

More hard work for England. Malan tries to get his cut away but keeps on picking out the fielder.

There is plenty of turn with an hour left today.

Francis Edwards‏: Root is a class player, and he's probably the luckiest. Wonder what his average would be if people actually caught him.

Six catches have gone down in the match which should have been taken.

Root was dropped in the first innings and made West Indies pay with a 50 and now the tourists will be fearing he'll do the same as he drives for four.

In this innings alone they have already missed a simple run out, dropped a catch and failed to review an edge from Malan.

A bad situation for England could be a whole lot worse.

  7. dropped catch

Root dropped on 10published at 43.1 overs

Unbelievable. If West Indies had taken all of their chances they could have this over with by now.

On the back foot Root tries to punch but gets an outside edge straight to Kyle Hope at around fifth slip.

It is head height and must be taken.

  8. Eng 106-3published at 43 overs

Roston Chase into the attack. The off spinner has a bit of rough to aim at outside of left-handed Malan's off stump.

On the whole that over was a little too short and Root and Malan were able to collect a couple of singles.

Jason Holder must wish he had four Shannon Gabriels. His spell was brilliant.

I think there was a millimetre of Shannon Gabriel's boot behind the line. Just enough.

  10. Stoneman's dismissal - no ball or not?published at 17:19 British Summer Time 27 August 2017

Time to make your mind up.

There was only a millimetre in it either way but was Gabriel's foot behind the line?

The umpire thought so and Mark Stoneman was on his way for 52.

  11. Eng 104-3published at 42 overs

    Root 9, Malan 5

That's the Root we are used to. Roach gets a little too wide and the England skipper hits a back foot drive for four.

He tries to repeat the shot on the final ball of the over but swings and misses and Roach is yelping in frustration.

This is such good bowling from West Indies.

CDNesbitt‏: It's been several years since I've seen a session of bowling as good as this from the likes of Aus, Ind or SA in England.

If England were unlucky with the dismissal of Stoneman, they have got away with one there.

Malan needs to capitalise now. He brings up his side's 100 with a pull to fine leg. It has not been easy but that must have been the first target.

Sometimes you have to go off the body language of the batsman. He followed that ball to the keeper straight away.

  15. Eng 98-3published at 41 overs

Still Gabriel charges in looking for a similar delivery to the one that knocked back Stoneman's off stump.

That one is too full and Malan punches four.

Let off! Huge let off. Gabriel goes back over the wicket and beats Malan with a back of a length delivery. There is a tentative appeal but Gabriel shrugs when Holder considers a review.

But Ultraedge shows there was a feather! Had they reviewed, Malan would be gone.

It's been terrific from the West Indies. Throughout the three days, they have outbatted and outbowled England. Perhaps they haven't outfielded England, mind.

Two new men at the crease now with Root on four and Malan yet to score. This has been another excellent session from West Indies. Every run looks a struggle.

Root has faced 29 balls for his four. West Indies are all over England.

Roach keeps things tight again. Gabriel looks the more threatening but his fellow opening bowler is not leaking runs.

Wow. That was tight, very tight. Marais Erasmus asked for that to be replayed over and over again but eventually upheld the dismissal.

It was a great delivery from Gabriel from round the wicket that moved away and hit the top of off stump.

Dawid Malan, another man under pressure, is the new man with England in deep trouble.
