This over from Jason Holder has been outstanding. The round-the-wicket angle is making Alastair Cook play at these deliveries. That's a huge breakthrough, the West Indies know what Cook can do. Now this is pressure for Tom Westley at number three.

    Cook c Dowrich b Holder 23 (Eng 58-1)

A sublime over from Jason Holder has its deserved reward.

After beating Cook's bat three times, the Windies captain finally finds the edge, getting yet another ball to angle in and leave the opener, who gets a fine tickle on it through to Shane Dowrich.

Cook had looked imperious until this over. No need to play at that ball but Holder had scrambled his head. A massive moment for the visitors.

Holder getting a bit more nip off the seam from around the wicket, twice beating Cook's bat.

The second swerved wildly after it passed the bat, almost looking like Cook had nicked it but he was safe. Just.

Phew, what a beauty third up - angling in and leaving Cook, who is under pressure now.

    A solid defence follows.

I'm bewildered that West Indies haven't turned to their leg-spinner yet. This is exactly the situation you pick your leg-spinner for.

    Cook 23, Stoneman 30

Cook pokes one into leg before Stoneman works a loose delivery away off his hip for four.

It's alright stuff from Chase but far from menacing.

    Where are you, Bishoo?

Stoneman looks to be the best of the new players we've had. In some ways it's not saying a lot but he's by far better in technique than the others and he's only made 20-odd. I want him to play like this all the time. I don't want him to think he can come in and play shots on a flat pitch like he does against county attacks. He won't be able to do that in Australia - that Starc is quick and Cummins is even quicker.

    Holder 6-2-9-0

Holder gamely lollops in but no dangers for this pair from the Windies captain.

He moves around the wicket to Stoneman but the Surrey man shows the maker's name as Holder at least picks up another maiden.

Stoneman tucks one into mid-wicket before Cook punches a drive for a couple.

Chase not really threatening either left-hander for the time being.

When was the last time England were 100-0? Moeen Ali opening in the UAE was the last I recall

    Dan in Gordes

It was actually between Cook and Jennings in the fifth Test against India at Chennai last year.

They made 103 for the first wicket but England collapsed to 207 all out and lost by an innings and 75 runs.

That is just England's second 50 opening partnership of the summer - before this they've been averaging 22.7 for the first wicket.

    Cook 20, Stoneman 25

Cook gets a thick inside edge but it's safe enough and runs away for a couple.

That's the 50 partnership - the first one between this opening pair in Test cricket.

    A dot to finish.

Cook angles it down through third man - is that four? Yes, it just about beats the fielder, whose slide proved in vain.

Short and wide - Cook crashes it away but there's a man out so that's just a single.

Another boundary off the over as Stoneman drives and the ball catches the outer edge of the bat, running along the ground to the fence through third man.

    Cook 13, Stoneman 21

Bit of a loose prod from Cook has Holder interested for a split second but the England opener didn't get close to nicking it in the end.

A tuck off the pads to rotate the strike before a watchful Stoneman again sees off the over.

You won't get a warmer day than this at Headingley. And with a dry pitch too. It's lovely for batting.

Ooof - spin for Chase draws the leading edge from Cook, who's fortunate to see it land safe before he scrambles a single.

Stoneman calmly plays out the rest of the over.

    Cheers, Matt. Enjoy the sunshine.

Alastair Cook is - Holder drifts short and wide and you know what happens next - a cut shot for four.

His second favourite shot comes next - the tuck off his pads, just for a single this time.

Stoneman has got 21 runs quite quickly and he has to make sure he doesn't get carried away. They're 160-odd behind and there's two and a half days left in the match. What modern players don't do these days is bat for time.
