And that is the first mini session over for England as the substitutes run on with drinks.

That's gone as well as could have been predicted for the hosts.

Jack Skelton is back. I'll be back after tea.

Oooooooo. That's why the spinners will have a role to play in the rest of this match.

Chase finds turn and bounce but it spins past the outside edge of left-hander Stoneman.

The slip fielder spins around in frustration. There hasn't been much to encourage the bowlers under blue skies at Headingley but that will.

The pace of bowling has definitely dropped now with Holder into the attack. It looks pretty comfortable out there.

Just how does a West Indian bowler of over 2m in height only bowl at 79mph? It is just not right.

I used to think the same thing about West Indian left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn.

Astronomer: Stoneman has made his highest Test score. All we need is for the other 10 batsmen to make theirs.

    Can't wait to see Stuart Broad's 170.

Perhaps a little worry for West Indies as Shannon Gabriel's spell is indeed over but he walks up to the dressing room followed by the West Indies physio.

Interestingly, like the first innings Holder turns to part-time off spinner Roston Chase before his front line spinner Bishoo.

Chase's first over is too wide to cause any trouble and England have made such a solid start I am already googling their highest opening partnerships in recent times.

That was the drive that West Indies have been trying to lure Stoneman into.

Jason Holder brings himself into the attack to replace Roach.

Loose from Stoneman. He's been selective in when to drive but this was not quite there to hit. Luckily for him he fails to connect but the fielders gasp.

Holder dispenses with his jumper. It must be warm in Leeds.

So it's all back on Cook to carry this team, just like our first innings every Test. We need him to bat through two or three sessions and we win. If he goes for a handful of runs, we always struggle.

That's what Stoneman is looking for. Full from Gabriel and the Surrey opener drives for three in the covers.

Jason Holder had a 10-yard start on Jermaine Blackwood as the pair chased that down but the latter won. They walk back side by side, the two-metre-plus-Holder towering over the Blackwood.

I think that might be Gabriel done after a fast but wide five-over spell.

Roach is going to try going over the wicket as he tries to correct his wayward start. The first ball is down the leg side so no improvement yet.

He gets a little better but Stoneman isn't interested unless it is there to hit like the balls were for those previous boundaries.

Back-to-back maidens for Roach but again there was no suggestion the batsmen were in trouble.

Mark Stoneman has started positively - England will be hoping to see plenty more of these sort of shots as they try to reduce the first innings deficit.

Hmmmmm. Are Gabriel's no ball problems returning? He bowled one in his previous over and now two more in this one.

He's going at Stoneman with short-pitched bowling and that could be causing him to overstep as he charges in down the hill.

The Trinidadian reaches 92mph as he almost catches Stoneman out with a full delivery which the batsman inside edges down to fine leg.

Cummins, Starc, Pattinson and Hazelwood won't be much than that quicker in the winter.

A maiden from Roach to Cook but there was no threat at all.

So far the West Indies have not been as accurate as the first innings when they were rightfully praised.

It is all pretty calm. A steady start from England.

Mumin Rashid: Moeen and Stoneman owe a century each, for those dropped catches.

Gabriel is already up to 90mph as he hustles Cook a little and hits him on the thigh pad.

The slip fielders appealed for a catch but there was definitely no bat and Dowrich spilled the ball behind the stumps anyway.

Having bowled 24 no balls in the warm-up game, Gabriel oversteps for the first time here with a wayward delivery. Not quite found his radar yet but he is once again proving himself to be the quickest bowler in the match.

It appears we're in for a result in this Test, one way or the other. In fact, since 1981 (when Botham slayed the Aussies), there's only been three drawn Tests in 32 at Headingley. In the 43 Tests before that, 15 were drawn. Leeds is a result pitch these days.

Three fours in the over for Stoneman. The final one was a little more sketchy down to third man.

Three occasions Roach got too full there and every time Stoneman punished him.

That should settle any nerves. He's already two short of his highest Test score.

Stoneman is quick to pounce on over-pitched balls. He played the same way in the first innings.

  19. Eng 16-0published at 3.3 overs

Shot! Good from Stoneman as he drives through the covers for four.

And again! This time it is straighter.

Geoffrey isn't on TMS at the moment but he'll appreciate those. Textbook.

What was I saying about a watchful approach?
