    Oh.

    Me and my big mouth.

This is a really strange dismissal. It was almost like catching practice. On the first ball after drinks Stokes just lofts the off-spinner Chase straight to Brathwaite and long off.

    Thanks Jack.

This is all going rather swimmingly for England isn't it?

At what point do we worry that the pitch is looking so flat that England won't be able to bowl out West Indies?

West Indies look a beaten side.

Since the second new ball the ball hasn't done a great deal so there is not a lot there.

Pre-lunch they kept the spinners on and it gave me a message that Holder was worried about runs.

The morning session was so important for West Indies. Now the off-spinner has bowled an over and it was a one-day field.

And the end of the 100th over of this England innings also signals drinks.

    Which signals my late lunchtime.

I'll hand you back over to Matt Henry for the spell leading up to tea and be back with you for the entire final session.

    Laters.

Holder, still nagging away, no runs off the first four deliveries before Stokes dabs one away to deep cover for a single.

    Malan defends to finish.

This innings is proof that England can stay in, get stuck in and get the runs when they need it. They also haven't just relied on one batsman. All, apart from Westley, have done their bit. This is a high-class team, and they will win the Ashes, so long as there isn't another Mitchell Johnson-esque mass hoodoo...

A Roberts, doing the crossword with far too much distraction, Ealing.

Nothing wrong with a bit of confidence...

  7. Eng 302-4published at 99 overs

    Malan 61, Stokes 57

Chase bowls to Malan first up, the number five patient before glancing it away for a single.

Stokes lets the first one go. A shorter ball to finish is then flicked down to long on for one.

Here's the moment Ben Stokes reached his half-century.

The Durham man is still there and looking to bat Windies out of this.

Roston Chase will enter the fray next - signal for Stokes to up the ante?

Someone has to lift West Indies at the moment and it isn't happening.

  10. Eng 300-4published at 98 overs

    Lead by 131

Holder gets Stokes playing and missing, with some big movement after the ball had passed the bat.

A tidy over brings about a maiden for Holder but that pressure is in short supply at the moment.

Away with talk of 180 being enough. England must get a 250 plus lead to guarantee the series win - first priority. That will also bat the Windies out of this game, and may win it for us - a bonus.

Holder needs to get hold of his team and say, "look they are only 130 ahead, we can get the wickets and bowl them out for 180." This is a chance to bowl them out and win Test in England.

Holder at mid off isn't saying a word. The wicketkeeper doesn't speak. He is more interested in upping his own performance.

West Indies have no one taking the game by the scruff of the neck.

  13. Eng 300-4published at 97 overs

    Malan 60, Stokes 56

Stokes picks up a single to join Malan on 56.

But Dawid joins the boundary party with a cracking cover drive that whistles to the fence.

England tucking into a very tired-looking Gabriel.

    That's the 300 up and a lead of 131.

The all-rounder is battering West Indies right now.

They need to get him soon or he'll take the game away from the tourists.

Yeah, that new willow is up to scratch. Ben Stokes stays tall to the short ball and cracks it off the back foot through the covers.

That brings up his 11th Test fifty, off 92 balls.

Joe Brians: No one is moaning about Malan anymore like they were this morning! Let others be the aggressor and hold the innings together

GS Webster: Have to disagree. Malan would be good for England. We have enough flair players. We need someone who can steady the ship.

WeaklingChild: Malan’s low strike rate is an encouraging sign that he can play to the situation, despite his attacking intents. He can stay.

  20. Eng 287-4published at 96 overs

Jason Holder into the fray, Malan angles one away for two behind point.

It's been strangely subdued from the tourists starting with that final half hour before lunch.

"No pep in the step," says Fazeer Mohammed on TMS. Indeed.

That's peppier - Stokes driving and getting a fine edge that dies and rolls toward Dowrich.
