Shannon Gabriel is starting to look a bit fatigued. It looks like his work load for this game is just about done.

  2. 50 for Malanpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 28 August 2017

Stokes is just three away from his 50 but Malan just about beat him to the milestone.

A gritty, determined innings from the number five, taking him 162 balls.

Another excellent shot for no run by Stokes as Gabriel is finally called for a frankly ridiculous no ball.

The Windies quick adjusts his bowling mark and goes back over the wicket. Great response, beating Stokes' prod as it flies just past the inside edge and just past the off-stump.

Stokes takes one to the body and defends well.

Good contest when Gabriel gets it right and doesn't over-step, but he's looking a bit tired.

If England bat for a session and a half they will score another 250 runs with the batters they have to come. They could declare tonight and have half an hour at the West Indies.

Alastair Cook wouldn't have done that but will Joe Root?

It is unlikely to happen but that is the perfect scenario.

Swanny will be pleased - following a wide, Stokes thwacks an unconventional drive down the ground for four. Short of just stood and delivered, drilling it into the pitch and away.

That's even better - a delicious on drive to an over-pitched ball for back-to-back boundaries.

Ben Stokes at the minute is my favourite cricketer in the world by a country mile.

He's not quite mine but it's hard to disagree after seeing shots like this...

  7. Eng 275-4published at 94 overs

    Malan 54, Stokes 39

Will Malan feel able to unleash a bit more now? The Middlesex man carves a square drive away to the fence before a leg bye restores Stokes to the strike.

Stokes flashes a lovely cut away for just one, with a man on the boundary.

Malan drives and misses at a wide one to end. A bit wafty, maybe put that shot back in the locker for a while.

No runs to Stokes off the rest of the over.

Meanwhile, TV pictures show a seemingly endless stream of Gabriel no balls, some called, some not.

Don't want to be that guy - but what if those 10 or so runs make a difference to the outcome of this match?

England's lead is up to 100, by the way.

Malan's innings has not been pretty, he hasn't dominated and has had his luck.

The situation adds value to his runs. The match is in the balance and he has got ugly runs.

The way Malan has got to 50 sums up his innings but it is an excellent effort. He has had to battle out there.

Malan on 49 - and there it is, a bit of a streaky inside edge into the leg side as he runs through to bring up his half-century.

It's taken him 162 balls, likely one of his slowest ever half-centuries, but a vital innings.

I'm not sure he's the answer at five but you've got to give Malan immense credit for the way he's played. Ugly at times but invaluable.

If there was an injury where Stokes could not bowl but could bat, he would walk into this England team.

Roach still hanging it outside the off-stump, trying to tempt Stokes. It's really not working - the Durham man happy to leave responsibly after clattering the bad ball.

You could hear that crack into the bat and my goodness it raced away.

  17. Eng 268-4published at 91.1 overs

Shot of the day so far as Roach pitches one up and Stokes cracks it off the middle through the covers.

    The lead is 99.

Bouncer from Gabriel - it's also wide and Malan tries to hook but misses. A minor win for the bowler.

A bigger win for Malan next up as he pulls forcefully through backward square, a decent stop limiting him to two.

A prod into off, good running as they scamper one to take Malan to 49.

Stokes defends and then slides it into the off-side for one.

There is a hum around the ground and I think that's because they have been absorbed by this contest.

  20. Eng 260-4published at 90 overs

    Malan 46, Stokes 33

Windies seem to be trying to lure Malan into a wild drive, Roach round the wicket and hanging it out wide.

The number five does get a thick inside edge on one but perfectly safe for a single.

Same plan to Stokes it seems. Not sure about this - it's not forcing the batsman to play and isn't finding out whether this new ball is swinging or nibbling off the seam.
