    Malan 40, Stokes 27

What's going on with Ben Stokes' running?

This time he drops his bat halfway down and has to get a sprint on to make his ground. He even dips his head like a sprinter as he goes over the line. Not that it would do him any good.

That's rubbish from Bishoo. Absolute rubbish. Halfway down the pitch and Stokes and crashes the ball for four more.

Fazeer has just said on commentary that he finds it difficult to get Brian Lara into an all-time West Indies XI. A huge call.

Great result for Stokes but this is what you want as Chase - if Stokes misses, he'd definitely be out lbw there.

A high-risk shot, but played so well.

Big turn. If England can get a few more this will interest Moeen Ali. Chase rips one past Stokes' edge.

Stokesy missed out on a sweep in the last over from Chase but not this time. The ball flies off the bat and to the rope.

These two will be calming the England dressing room after the loss of Root.

Didn't even flinch! I like Shai Hope, he's so cool.

  5. Eng 238-4published at 83 overs

    Malan 39, Stokes 18

Malan is eager to move into the 40s after playing Bishoo comfortably into the leg side but Stokes slips and that's the end of that for now.

Oooooooh. Malan is now back on strike and almost plays onto his stumps. The West Indians stand with their hands on heads.

Ouch. Shai Hope is grateful for his shin pads as Malan whacks a half tracker into him at short leg. Hope gets a clap from slip for stopping the runs.

Only England fans would criticise such a talented and consistent performer like Root.

It is usually said that a off-spinner is more dangerous to left-handed batsman than a leg spinner so it will be interesting to see how Chase fares.

He causes a few gasps as he tosses one up and Stokes sweeps but fails to connect.

Benjamin isn't flustered and pushes the ball into the covers for a couple.

As Aggers says Shannon Gabriel showed very little interest in another burst before lunch and that means Bishoo will continue with his leg spin.

Just the single from the over. Bishoo is settling into a nice enough line but not causing much bother.

It definitely doesn't look like we'll see the new ball this morning because Roston Chase is coming into the attack.

Gabriel is keeping a very low profile out on the boundary so I don't think they're going to take the new ball straight away.

Wakefield Neil: Everyone banging on about the three batters that are struggling need to look at the Aussie line-up - nobody apart from Smith & Warner.

You'd think Shannon Gabriel will return to the attack in an over or two with the new ball but he looks awfully stiff as he runs around from fine leg to field as Malan picks up two.

It may not be everyone's cup of tea but I am pleased to see England battling and showing they can quietly accumulate on the final days of a Test.

The new ball is now available.

    Andrew Samson

There has been 17 runs off wides in this Test so far - the world record is 34 so there is some way to go.

That record was set in a Test between Australia and West Indies at Bridgetown in 2008.

Another quiet over. Malan steals a single from the final ball to keep the strike.

Fielders, batsmen and the crowd are waiting for the next phase of this game which I assume will come after this next over.

They are two or three spots in this England line-up that are crying out to be filled, but not many people around the country putting their hands up.

I do agree with Geoffrey, for once, though. A 70 or 80 from Malan here and he books his place for the Ashes.

  15. Eng 230-4published at 78 overs

Paul Farbrace is having an intense-looking chat with Tom Westley on the England balcony. I would love to know what is being said.

That last stat is really interesting. There must be a reason? Is it because the increased role of coaches and backroom staff in the modern day makes things easier to captain?

Holder bowls his eighth maiden. A quiet period before the new ball.

Nice cricket that - Bishoo teased him with a googly but Stokes waited for it and hit it well.

  18. Eng 230-4published at 77 overs

And there is the boundary I speak of from Stokes. He sees off an optimistic appeal first ball and then swats Bishoo down the ground for four.

A single to the all-rounder and then a two to Malan. That's good cricket.

    Seven from Bishoo's over.

  19. Eng 223-4published at 76 overs

Yet another maiden seen off by Malan. Holder didn't really give him any opportunities to score. His strike rate is now below 30 but what would England prefer now, a few fours and out or a solid knock while Stokes, Bairstow, Moeen etc find the rope?

  20. Stokes hits a boundary off Bishoopublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 28 August 2017

With five overs until the new ball, Bishoo's spell might not last too long.

It'll be over even quicker than that if he bowls balls like this which allowed Stokes to get off the mark earlier.
