For the Ashes tour I want someone who has been around the England team for a while so I'd have Jos Buttler as the reserve wicketkeeper batsman, but not to come in as just a batsman.

Assuming Westley doesn't prove himself, and that the options are now limited.....Rather than try another debutant, why not put Stokes, who is both proven and has proved himself capable of responsible batting, at three? Would allow the inclusion of Woakes and Roland-Jones and we have SOME batting down to 10, and more bowling options.

The only way Moeen Ali will have an effect in Australia this winter is if England get a huge amount of runs. Anderson and Broad can bowl in any conditions but it is a seam attack that needs a lot of runs behind them.

The batsmen are going to have to perform on a consistently high level to put Australia under any pressure. Australia have the pace to blow you away.

Alastair Cook has dropped a few now and the next catch that goes his way, doesn't matter how easy it is, will be very difficult for him. He'll probably just grab at it and hope it sticks in his hand - hopefully then they will start to stick again as they have for the last 15 years.

  10. Australia beat Bangladeshpublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 7 September 2017

Australia have just wrapped up a seven-wicket victory over hosts Bangladesh to draw the two-Test series 1-1.

It looked brilliantly poised after Australia edged themselves to a first innings lead of 72, before Nathan Lyon took 6-60 to help bowl out Bangladesh for 157.

The tourists had a mini collapse to 48-3 but Peter Handscomb (16 not out) and Glenn Maxwell (25 not out) steered their side beyond the target of 85.

Despite the win, the drawn series means Australia fall to fifth, below New Zealand on decimal points in the ICC Test rankings. , external

The Aussies are actually closer to Sri Lanka in seventh than they are to England in third. Means pretty much nowt for the Ashes, mind.

England will be delighted to get that early breakthrough, the confidence would have gone down by Alastair Cook dropping that catch, but it's always nice to get one of the openers out early.

    WI 18-1

Ah. Umpires Marais Erasmus and Chris Gaffaney stop Anderson before he can start the over and have another meeting in the middle.

The rain is now heavy enough to stop play.

England leave the pitch, glad to have grabbed that wicket before the rain break.

An intriguing session is sadly curtailed - hopefully they'll be back on before long.

  18. WI 18-1published at 12 overs

The downside to overcast conditions? The increased possibility of rain. Quite a few spots on the camera lenses now and a smattering of umbrellas being put up.

The Lord's groundstaff are gathering on the edge of the outfield and umpire Marais Erasmus has just done the open palm 'How heavy is the rain?' stance.

Broad bowls a tidy maiden to Powell in the meantime.

The umpires gather at the end - but play goes on for now...

Kyle Hope is the new man in and successfully fends off the remaining two deliveries.

The light meter is out on the pitch but fortunately play will continue.

That will delight Anderson, who now needs just two more wickets to reach 500 and has the overcast conditions he excels in.

You saw what it meant to James Anderson, a great big leap and a punch in the air. He felt a bit hard done by by Cooky dropping that catch and Cooky was the first to congratulate him. It is doing a bit, it's nipping off the pitch and they are bowling fuller than they did at Headingley. This is the time when you've got to make the most of the conditions.
