Cook drops Brathwaitepublished at 2.3 overs

    WI 4-0

A total dolly. What has happened to Alastair Cook's hands? After dropping a couple he'd usually snaffle at Headingley, he's done it yet again at Lord's.

And it's that man Brathwaite again. Lovely shape from Anderson, drawing the opener into a loose prod, finding the edge - it flies straight to Cook at a lovely height but it spills it.

A reminder - Cook dropped Brathwaite on four in the second innings at Headingley, the opener going on to make 95. He also dropped Shai Hope on 106 but the damage was done by the then.

Anderson should be on 498 Test wickets.

The pitch looks a little slow. The fairy ring on a length is dead straight, right in the eyeline of the batsman. That has to play on your mind. Stuart Broad seems to be struggling for rhythm, overstretching very slightly.

  4. WI 3-0published at 2 overs

Broad to open from the nursery end, Brathwaite still on strike.

Decent areas from Broad but no nip either through the air or off the seam from the first four balls.

The fifth swings but only swings after it passes Brathwaite, with Jonny Bairstow diving to his right to claim it before a well-judged leave. A maiden for Broad.

The fairy rings on the square look very strange, as if someone has spilled oil on it. It's like if you were flying over a group of small islands in the Pacific. It's strange to think this can happen at Lord's, which is normally so pristine.

  6. WI 3-0published at 1 over

Kraigg Brathwaite leans into the first delivery, knocking it away into the off-side for two.

Better line from James Anderson in response, a couple that almost square the opener up.

A dashed single to finish, with Stuart Broad unable to get round and throw in time.

I'm going to enjoy myself. I will commentate about a game of cricket, without a different approach. I won't regard this as any different to any other game that I have commentated on.

Blowers' first spell will be at 11:40 BST.

The reason why Woakes was so successful before the injury was that he had extra pace, fire and bounce. That wasn't there at Headingley.

Haseeb Hameed has just been trapped lbw by Jamie Porter for 88.

That is 88 off 250 balls. Proper dig in that. He'll be gutted to have missed out on his first century of the season though.

Reckon he'll be on the plane to Oz?

I question if England underestimated West Indies at Headingley, I'd rather say that West Indies played well. People should never say that the West Indies are the worst side, or whatever, because you have to respect international sport. They were nervous at Edgbaston.

There are a few showers moving along the M4 so there is a chance around lunchtime we could catch a shower. Tomorrow, it is more likely there will be interruptions. For the weekend, there are a few showers possible.

I think both captains felt the pressure to bat first but both wanted to lose the toss and bowl first. Joe Root was a very happy man there.

Tom Westley is probably the most under the pressure in the England team, he would have looked at it and thought it was quite a nice day to be in the field.

England probably pencilled in at least one Test for Mason Crane, so looking forward to Australia, it's that spin department that is a huge concern, who is going to be the second spinner? Do you take Crane who has not played a Test match? What England wanted was to go 2-0 up and play Crane in this match.

So the likes of Mark Stoneman, Dawid Malan and Tom Westley will have to wait to advance their chances of a place on the Ashes tour.

They'll be aware that those behind them are still stating their cases in county cricket.

Lancashire's Haseeb Hameed made an old-school, scrappy 85 off over 200 balls yesterday to stave off a rampant Essex.

Sam Northeast also made a tough century for Kent as all collapsed around him at Durham.

England captain Joe Root: "It's difficult to say, thankfully I didn't have to make that decision. It was a difficult decision - you want those headaches. The seam department is in a good place.

"Potentially we did bring Chris back a game too soon at Headingley

"Looking at this wicket, there was no temptation to play Mason Crane. Hopefully the seamers will play a big part."

West Indies captain Jason Holder: "It seems to be a pretty good wicket. We expect something to happen in the first hour but will be confident to get past that.

"We try to be consistent and give give guys a fair run. We did well in the last Test, but that's gone.

"There's no better place to come here and do it. Hopefully we can put on a good show."
