    Brathwaite c Bairstow b Anderson 10 (WI 18-1)

There it is - number 498.

A lovely delivery by James Anderson, right in that tricky channel as Kraigg Brathwaite indecisively hangs his bat at it, the ball tickling the edge and caught behind by Jonny Bairstow.

Cook looks delighted at slip - his earlier spill not conceding too many runs this time.

Anderson goes over to celebrate - a cracking spell from the Lancashire man, the ball before almost caught the edge too.

Robert Bownes: Break for rain might help England, not looking very threatening at the moment.

  4. WI 18-0published at 11:41 British Summer Time 7 September 2017

    Brathwaite 10, Powell 8

A pearler from Broad, getting it to nip away and beat Brathwaite's tentative prod.

He follows it up by targeting the pads and hitting them but that was sliding down.

Brathwaite clips one off the pads and Powell plays out the over.

That last Test was just one of those ones you are glued to throughout. The last day was fantastic and we don't have too many of those these days, everything is usually done and dusted by days three or four.

  6. WI 17-0published at 9 overs

Powell scrambling well, taking on Moeen Ali's arm and making his ground.

More scrambling, Brathwaite taking the quick single and Powell sliding the bat in at the striker's end as Broad's underarm attempt to throw down the stumps missed.

Powell would've been safe both times - good strike rotation by this pair.

Hmm, it's looking very dark over the pavilion at Lord's.

You just get the feeling that the dropped catch could prove crucial. A few nerves would have got settled and Braithwaite has shown he can hang around.

  9. WI 15-0published at 11:32 British Summer Time 7 September 2017

    Brathwaite 8, Powell 7

Powell slides a single into off before Brathwaite brings out a decent drive into cover for two.

Broad responds, beating the bat with one that slightly nips away.

More promise for Broad - the final delivery seaming away and beating the outside edge again.

The Windies openers have come through the first half hour unscathed. Just.

Will Chilcott: No such thing as an easy slip catch, especially at Lord's with the slope and the way the ball moves late.

  11. WI 12-0published at 7 overs

Another tidy over from Anderson, probing away on and around the off-stump.

He strays too straight with one and Brathwaite clips it away off the pads for a couple.

  12. WI 10-0published at 11:24 British Summer Time 7 September 2017

    Brathwaite 4, Powell 6

Powell is flirting with the line between good leave and foolish shouldering of arms.

Broad swings the first three away before sending down a big in-swinger that just about bounces over middle and leg.

The first boundary of the day follows, Powell guiding away through third man to the fence.

    England grimace.

Kimball: Cook is a real pro. Not the beginning of the eyes going I hope. He's getting his hands there but out of alignment.

Dave Wood: Would it not just be easier to move Cook out of the slip cordon?

  14. WI 6-0published at 5 overs

Brathwaite taps a single, giving an angry Anderson a look at Powell.

The Burnley bowler sends down a peach that curves away, just missing the outside edge as Powell tries to make out he knew exactly where his bat was coming down.

Another single to end the over.

Thomas Knights: Cook with one of the worst drops at slip you will ever see, nice height, no great pace, has to be caught at any level.

Sam James: Cooky. Wow. I'm a bad catcher, but damn... NEXT ONE, COOKY! HEAD UP, SON! *Vigorous clapping*

  17. WI 4-0published at 11:16 British Summer Time 7 September 2017

    Brathwaite 3, Powell 1

Broad now getting some sizeable movement away from the left-hander.

The trouble is he's not pitching it close to force Powell to play.

Ooh, the last one comes back in and through Powell's defences. A strangled appeal for lbw but nothing doing. Another maiden for Broad.

  19. WI 4-0published at 3 overs

Another edge from Brathwaite but it lands short of the slips.

A tremendous over from Anderson but scant consolation for missing out on that wicket.

Kieran Powell scoring the only run off the over, a thickish outside edge to get off the mark.

This is an absolute sitter. James Anderson has turned away in disgust. It's regulation, carried to Cook, hit him on the thumbs then gone up into his tummy. It's a 99 percenter. I feel for Cook. He'll be thinking of it for the rest of the day. It was so easy.
