Ex-England batsman on Test Match Special
Hales loves batting here. It looks a beautiful surface, the vacuum sucking it away to the boundary. The outfield is absolute lightening.
This pitch looks a belter. I wonder when Holder might start regretting the decision to field first. Alex Hales is already finding the middle, rasping a cover drive wide of mid-off and into the fence. Jerome Taylor, with the ball, compensates to drag his length back, only to see it disappear square for four. The outfield is lightning, too.

Bairstow was miles out, left for dead and Hales apologised. There was some miscommunication - it's a new combination at the top of the order for England.
Very iffy start from Holder. Leggy all the way. Two wides, with Bairstow then clipping square for four and straight for three more. England have nine from only three legal deliveries. After that, a shaky England single would have Bairstow short had the throw hit. Eventful start.

A friend of mine at university played for the local village side on his 21st birthday. Opening the batting in a Robin Smith style grille-less helmet, he top-edged an attempted pull off his 3rd ball up into the peak, from where it ricocheted into his face, breaking his cheek bone. In all of the photos of him on a night out with his family, who had come over from Ireland en masse to celebrate his big day, he looks like he has a cricket ball embedded in his face. Oh how we laughed.

Right then, the players are out there. Jason Holder, the Windies skipper, has the ball. Jonny Bairstow is scratching at the ground, with Alex Hales at the other end. I'll be honest - it's quite dark.

Yes, Morgan does need some runs but he's the sort of guy who is just one knock away from getting into some form. I'm sure he can turn it around.

I thought England played brilliantly at Old Trafford, outclassed West Indies in every department from ball one.
They have to not be complacent, it's just a case of knowing that the West Indies will fight back hard so trying to up your performance.
And, while you're following this match, you can take a peek at the sensation that is taking the world by storm.

Pick your England team to defend the urn, then share it with your friends. If you haven't got any friends, share it with people you don't like.
England captain Eoin Morgan on TMS: "The toss loss doesn't sit too badly with me. It looks a really good pitch. Appearances can be deceiving but I believe it will be good to bat on. We have a lot of good memories here but we need to bat well. I'd like to get runs as soon as possible so hopefully I can kick on today."
On Chris Gayle being out injured:
"West Indies are a strong outfit when they perform together, one individual doesn't make a team."
But what about your birthday tales of cricketing success or failure? Did you get Test match tickets as a present, only to leave them at home? Did you take a hat-trick, or score a ton? Maybe your dropped the catch that cost the game. Share the pain.

West Indies captain Jason Holder speaking to TMS: "Chris Gayle came to me before the toss and said he was feeling something in his hamstring. Hopefully it's not something too serious and it's a precaution.
"He came to me as I was walking up to the coin so I don't know the extent of the injury.
"It was a team decision to bowl first. We have to rotate the strike a lot better today and with the ball we need to be more consistent."

BBC Test Match Special
In case you didn't know, Test Match Special have a, erm, special guest today. James Anderson, who has bowled a bit for England, makes his TMS debut. I think there might be an initiation ceremony.
You can listen to Jimmy at the top of this page or on 5 live sports extra.

Manny Hawks: Gayle doing the right thing having his birthday off - got spanked around the park playing on mine this summer.
So, what to make of all that? Let me know. Text 81111, tweet #bbccricket, external or email tms@bbc.co.uk.
Chris Gayle's birthday mishap can't be the only time that someone has had an unfortunate cricketing birthday. There's probably some birthday success out there too.
West Indies captain Jason Holder: “It seems a pretty good wicket but there is a bit of moisture. With overhead conditions and Duckworth-Lewis perhaps coming later, it might be better to bat second.
“We are professional cricketers and we will have to adjust to whatever conditions.”
