That was an absolute beauty. Not what you want as a new batsman. There's not much Jos Buttler could have done about that.

Buttler b Cummins 2 (Eng 210-5)
Blimey, play that if you can. Miguel Cummins has produced a beauty to remove a leaden-footed Jos Buttler. The paceman, back into the attack, angles the ball in and gets it to straighten, shaving the off bail. That's tricky to play even when you've been in for a while, let alone when you've just arrived. England's biffer comes and goes.

Buttler has scored England's three fastest one-day centuries.
Powell 4-0-15-1
Looking again, it was actually very, very wide from Powell. Stokes was disgusted with himself as soon as he made contact. He knew he'd fallen on his sword. His replacement is Jos Buttler. With the best part of 20 overs to bat and some short boundaries, he'll be feeling it.

It was a wide, full ball and Stokes skewed it straight down the throat of deep extra cover.
Stokes c Lewis b Powell 73 (Eng 206-4)
What an anticlimax. Just as Ben Stokes looked set to go all big dog, he holes out. It's good bowling from Rovman Powell, who hangs the leather outside the off stump. Stokes accepts the challenge, but his lofted drive is sliced to Evin Lewis on the cover fence.

Ian: Eoin Morgan is on borrowed time, You can get away with an out of form capt in Tests but mostly not in ODI's, his form is awful.
Thomas Tew: Does he ever play? Drop him, put Bairstow at four, Roy at the top. World Cup in two years.Time to cut the wheat. #morganout #willeyout
Nursey blinks first. No more tossing it up and letting Stokes plonk it over the fence. Quicker, straighter, cramping him for room. The Windies must really be regretting playing two spinners now. Yes, England have two, but Stokes' all-round skills also give them four frontline pacemen.

Ben Stokes has got Ashley Nurse's measure. He knows where it's going to be bowled and if it's in the slot, he'll belt it.
The straight boundaries aren't big enough for Ben Stokes. Ashley Nurse's first two balls go for straight maximums...

Spending 50 overs in the field all at once for a one-day international can be demanding. It's only very occasionally that happens in a Test match - perhaps an extended final session etc. It can take a lot of getting used to, and can be draining.
Root 79, Stokes 58
Keeper Shai Hope comes up to the stumps for the ambling medium-pace of Rovman Powell. England are accumulating with the minimum of fuss, probably safe in the knowledge that they could decimate Powell if and when they so wish. A bit like being locked up with James Bond. You know he can take you, and he knows it too.

The way these two have rotated the strike has been brilliant. They've not allowed the West Indies bowlers to settle. It's annoying for the fielders too - having to constantly move position.
This stand is worth 100. Root has worked through mid-wicket and dabbed through mid-on, Stokes, like the clips below, has swept, reverse-swept and targeted mid-on. More spin from Ashley Nurse, who is reminding some on Twitter of Blackadder character Nursey. Sweep for four by Root, who then heaves over the leg-side rope for a maximum. England are on for a biggie.
On that very subject, Aussie Luke Pomersbach was once pulled out of the crowd at the Waca to play in a T20 international. Former England women's media manager Beth Wild, herself a decent player, was always hopeful she would make an international debut in the event of an injury crisis. Accidental cricket. Unexpected times when you've ended up having a game.

I think England have done a fantastic job so far. Apart from a few good deliveries early on, England have not been in any trouble. They've almost made it look easy to score at 6 an over.
Root 62, Stokes 53
A new experience for me today. Gravy with a sausage roll. I'll be having it again. Speaking of new experiences, James Anderson is once again in the TMS box after making his day-boo at Trent Bridge. You can hear Jimmy right now. Here's a question. Has he got his kit just in case a few of the team are struck down by a dodgy lasagne?
Cheers, Kal. To me, West Indies look a pace bowler short of an attack, which perhaps explains why the part-time medium-pace of Rovman Powell is being employed. It's tidy enough, even finding the edge of Joe Root's bat. Only two from the over. You wonder how much England's attack might get out of this ugly-looking surface.
Root 57, Stokes 51
Joe Root elegantly whips Nurse to mid-on for a single to Stokes who brings up his 50. A brilliantly executed reverse-sweep for four, followed by a steer down to mid-on to reach his half-century.
England will be eyeing up a big score here. Stephan Shemilt will talk you through the second half of this innings. See you in a bit.

Martin Rogers: Time to jettison Morgan, not good enough to keep his place and Root more than capable of captaining in all forms of the game.
