Sachin Tendulkar is shown on the big screen and the crowd roars.

  2. Ind 89-0published at 18.3 overs

Top edge from Rohit, goes high, Hassan Ali running round from long-on can't get to it.

  3. Wahab dominated by India openerspublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

Pakistan bowler Wahab Riaz has a decent ODI record against India - taking nine wickets in six matches at 30 apiece. He's getting some tap today though...

  4. Ind 87-0published at 12:33 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

    Wahab 3-0-19-0

Sachin Tendulkar is in the house.

The little master is looking cool ... dark floral shirt, sideburns, shades. Shaking hands and doing his thing. He's a movie star now, don't you know?

    Better over from Wahab Riaz.

    Ramiz Raja
Former Pakistan captain on BBC Test Match Special

This is a good response from India. They may not be the most attractive opening pair but they get the job done. It's a great platform they've set.

  6. Ind 84-0published at 17 overs

    Rohit 45, Dhawan 35

The young leg-spin of Shadab Khan is introduced. Highly rated is this lad.

Nothing too spectacular as five singles conceded.

    Strong opening partnership this.

    Graeme Swann
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

People come to England and assume the ball will misbehave early on, but there's been no swing so far in this tournament. Teams have been watchful early on, perhaps they needn't be?

  8. Ind 79-0published at 16 overs

India's best over of the day.

Doesn't start off great as Rohit Sharma may be a lucky boy. India go for an easy single, they take it, but Rohit looks for a dodgy second and is nearly runout. But probably would have been safe.

He's put it to the back of his mind though, how do I know that? Well he just smashed Wahab Riaz with a glorious drive through to the boundary.

Then Dhawan gets in on the act, cutting a high and wide one for four more.

    13 from the over.

    Edgbaston

Happiness in the Hollies as the fours start to flow for India.

You always look at Pakistan's fielding closely, because anything can happen, but apart from one mis-field and a bad overthrow, it's holding up.

  11. Ind 66-0published at 15 overs

    Hasan 4-0-18-0

Swanny is right, every run is being cheered by the Indian crowd.

Stop of the day from Shahzad at point. He's let a couple past him today but did better this time, diving to his right and getting both hands to it. Would have been four.

Another tidy over by Hasan Ali.

None of the Pakistan bowlers going for more than five per over.

The atmosphere is electric in the ground. There's some good-natured banter between the two sets of supporters. There's an awful lot of vuvuzelas honking around the place.

    Wahab Riaz into the attack.

    Solid bowler, fairly decent over.

TMS are talking about his tussle with Shane Watson at the World Cup - what a fiery spell that was!

  14. Don't give Rohit any freebies or this will happenpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

Rohit made no mistake when presented with this free hit following Hasan's no ball. Straight back from whence it came.

  15. Postpublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

    Graeme Swann
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

The good news is the groundsman and his team have gone back to their shed. They have changed their minds that there is some rain on the way.

  16. Ind 59-0published at 12:12 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

    Rohit 31, Dhawan 25

Well there's little sign of seeing Master Kohli just yet as these two look fairly comfortable at the crease.

Dhawan guides one past backward point for two.

Hasan goes short and Rohit pulls his bat away at the last moment, well watched, well left. Almost a carbon copy from Dhawan next.

Ground staff were lurking outside the rope ready to bring on the covers.

    Graeme Swann

Most neutrals, and certainly the India fans, are waiting to see the new Little Master, Virat Kohli. He's the most aesthetically pleasing batsman in world cricket.

  18. Ind 55-0published at 12 overs

    Imada 6-0-30-0

Slow left-arm Imad hardly moves his leading right arm in his action.

Fairly effective, mind you, just three from his over as India continue to tick along.

  19. Dhawan takes on the spinnerpublished at 12:07 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

We've had plenty of Rohit in the live this morning. Here's some Shikhar Dhawan boundary magic.

  20. Rohit drives through the coverspublished at 12:07 British Summer Time 4 June 2017

Rohit has taken on the fast bowling this morning, but he's also shown a more silky touch - middling this one from Hasan to the boundary.
