Pete Humphris: Aus vs Ban game proof that 50 over matches should be played as two teams having two innings of 25. More chance of result.

There’s only batsman in the world who can be the best.

Root hasn't scored as many hundreds as he should have done. Kane Williamson is an exquisite batsman who has done it around the world. They do both score their runs.

But Kohli is on another level, he is like a Ferrari or Porsche.

  3. 'Starc is number one'published at 19:50 British Summer Time 5 June 2017

I'm nervous about the Ashes. When you put the red ball in Mitch Starc's hand he can get that swing, especially with England's potential line up of right-handers.

Starc is my best in the world, number one. Rabada is my second.

Kagiso Rabada from South Africa stands out as the bowler who could one day be the best in the world.

The pace, the control, the swing. He's not my number one but he's one of the names worth mentioning and he should be on the radar.

  6. Best in the world?published at 19:36 British Summer Time 5 June 2017

Who is the best batsman in the world?

Who is the best bowler in the world?

Who is the best wicketkeeper in the world?

Well, we surveyed the one-day captains of each nation competing at the Champions Trophy, asking those three questions.

    Here are the results.

  7. Magnificent Mitch, Super Starcpublished at 19:31 British Summer Time 5 June 2017

More clips from today ... Tamim was dismissed just five short of his century.

As one man of the moment departed, another took the reins.

Over of the tournament from Mitchell Starc? Will be hard to beat.

For all you newcomers to this page, a bit of an update on where we are at: Rain had flirted with us throughout the day but finally gave way. Australia are well in control and need just four more overs to be completed for a result to be declared.

    We sit and wait.

The Bangladesh batsmen just couldn't stick around with Tamim. But kudos to the Aussie bowlers, especially Adam Zampa who took two in his first over.

We've made enough comments about his hair, no more. But he would be well placed in that famous Australian soap. The one that isn't Home and Away.

Neil Burns: Seriously, who had the bright idea to hold a cricket tournament in England in summer?

    Fair point that, Jay.

Over the course of this rain delay, I'll share some of the best bits from today.

More than half of Bangladesh's 183 runs came off the bat of Tamim Iqbal. I particularly liked the aggression he showed to Travis Head.

Jay: "How cruel could this be for Australia?" They did benefit from their first match being washed out. This probably evens it out.

We're in for a long evening - the umpires will wait and wait and wait. We can play until beyond 10pm.

So, if play is resumed then just 24 balls are needed for there to be a result (which you assume would be an Australia win.)

If Bangladesh had just batted through their 50 overs then they'd be further away from a result/potential loss. Hindsight eh?

Charles Coldman: On the most part this Champions Trophy has been poor so far. Bad weather. Only a couple of sell outs. And very one sided games.

  16. Rain stops playpublished at 18:44 British Summer Time 5 June 2017

And they're off ... how cruel could this be for Australia?!

  17. Aus 83-1published at 16 overs

    Warner 40, Smith 22

Mashrafe Mortaza continues. Delaying tactics as he adjusts his field? Don't be so cynical. But yes, maybe a little bit.

Smith happy to dab the ball back to the bowler in order to get through the over as soon as possible.

The forecast at the start of the day gave us very little hope so we've done well to get this much cricket today.

    Thanks, Amy.

Five more overs then for this to constitute a game.

The Bangladesh fans are giggling away, full of joy. The Australian batsmen look worried.
