Today is the 50th anniversary of the first county game to take place at Sophia Gardens, Glamorgan v Northants. Ray Bailey & Brian Crump (my uncle) opened the bowling and were unchanged as they took all 20 wickets over two innings, the only time this has been done in first-class cricket.
Andy Cooper, North Devon
Root 61, Stokes 15
On the subject of cricket in the cold, I'm fairly certain Buxton CC, where Derbyshire have played, have had their fair share of games snowed off. Ice cricket is definitely a thing in some parts of Scandinavia. Still Anderson, met with a Stokes blade that has a single strip of tape around the middle. Six from it.

The two boundaries Ben Stokes has scored haven't been vicious power - more just excellent timing.
New Zealand are using Trent Boult as an attack dog and he's back to target new man Ben Stokes. When the left-armer gets too full with a slower ball, Stokes eases him back down the ground for four. It looks cold out there. Wind, no sun. In the stand, spectators are huddled up under coats and rugs. I'm fairly certain the 12th man is using a Husky.

Jamie Walton: So many empty seats. Very frustrating, Headingley more than likely would have been a sell out!
Corey Anderson, blond, built like a wardrobe, is bowling some shuffly medium pace. He's running towards a stand that is full of empty blue seats. If you thought about going today, but didn't, let me know what put you off. Some wallop from Ben Stokes. Not even that short from Anderson, but picked up over mid-wicket for six. At the other end, Joe Root has a half-century through playing shots like these...

Daniel Jellicoe: Joe Root must have a back made of concrete, England's hopes forever resting on his shoulders.
Eng 142-3
The man just can't stop scoring runs. After a ton against Bangladesh, Joe Root has a 52-ball half-century in Cardiff. In 85 ODI innings, he has 32 scores in excess of 50. That's miles better than one in three. He must be a nightmare to play against. Root celebrates with a ridiculous reverse scoop off Mitchell Santner that Ross Taylor can't prevent from going to the rope.
Right, that's it from me for a bit. I'll leave you in Stephan's capable hands to talk you through the last 25 overs. Or the rain, whichever arrives first.
Anderson 4-0-17-1
I think that's a clever bit of bowling from Anderson - he saw Morgan coming and speared it a touch wider, forcing him to stretch and nearly put his shoulder out in the process. Here's Ben Stokes, and he sees out the rest of the over.

He gave himself some room, a premeditated move. Anderson bowled it quite wide, so Morgan ended up stretching and got a nick. It wasn't a great ball, or was it? If Anderson sensed him coming, he pushed it wider.
Morgan c Ronchi b Anderson 13 (Eng 134-3)
Left-armer Corey Anderson is back, and he's snared Eoin Morgan! Morgan came down the pitch, giving himself some room, and had to stretch to reach Anderson's delivery. The ball took a tiny edge from the tip of the bat and nestled safely in Luke Ronchi's gloves. Morgan considered reviewing it for roughly half a second before wandering off, his head down.
It was six and out - again - for Alex Hales, bringing up his half-century, going on the attack and then being dismissed in the space of three balls. A nicely made 56 for the England opener.
Boult 5-0-30-0
Morgan tries to swivel-pull Boult and gets into a right mess, toe-ending the ball away before spinning himself out of his crease. Boult dives, lobbing the ball towards the stumps, but he misses and Morgan's home. The England captain follows it up with a lovely push down the ground that hits the pile of sawdust at the bowler's mark, scattering it about the ground. And that's four - banged in, pulled, top edge into the rope.
Jeremy Coney
Ex-New Zealand captain on Test Match Special
New Zealand haven't been able to settle on a length that they're happy with. Instead they're turning to variations now. It's a good pitch. There's no swing or seam movement at all.
Root 48, Morgan 5
Milne starts his run-up and then has to take a swerve to the side as he gets hit in the face by a gust of wind. It's nasty to bowl into. Root digs out a good yorker and taps the rest of the over out, before shaking his head to himself.
Joe Root has been in good touch against Mitchell Santner this morning - he's taken 19 runs from the 14 deliveries he faced from the spinner.
Trent Boult is back, presumably to make things difficult for new man Eoin Morgan. That's a beauty from the Blackcaps man; Morgan playing down the wrong line and the ball breezes past the outside edge, missing by a millimeter. And the response form Morgan is excellent, cracked over extra cover for four.
Jeremy Coney
Ex-New Zealand captain on Test Match Special
That's an important wicket because the partnership was beginning to flourish and there appeared to be no threat from New Zealand.
