It's hard to argue with Swanny on that one. The Pakistan fans voiced their frustrations at Hafeez and Babar's slow approach but, in hindsight, it was very sensible.

That was before Tahir took this catch to dismiss Hafeez, subsequently celebrating as if Michael Buffer has just announced the South African leggy is the new heavyweight champion of the world.

It's a shame, this has been the best game of cricket we've had so far.

  3. State of play ...published at 19:45 British Summer Time 7 June 2017

The DLS par is 100, Pakistan are 19 runs ahead of that.

It's very bleak out the back of the ground. The forecast is poor for an hour, then it's slight rain - rather than heavy rain - after that.

  5. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 19:43 British Summer Time 7 June 2017

Players and umpires are going off and the covers are coming on. Pakistan ahead if they fail to come back on.

  6. Pak 119-3published at 27 overs

    Target 220

No-ball from Rabada offers a free-hit to Pakistan but Babar bottom edges it into the turf and they run through a single. No damage done.

But that's followed by a beautifully timed drive along the ground for a glorious four.

TV cameras keep panning to the ground staff and umbrellas, that doesn't bode well ...

Kashif Khan‏: Easily the best game of the tournament so far. Also happens to be the only game the bowlers have dominated. When will ICC learn?

  8. Pak 113-3published at 26 overs

    Babar 27, Malik 15

Shoaib Malik isn't shy of looking to score some runs and the Pakistan fans are loving it.

He smashes one over the head of Duminy at point for four.

He then does it again but this time hits it harder and gets more flight. Same result.

These two have done well after the last wicket. Hafeez took 53 balls for his 26 runs, but he did score this six.

That's good honesty by Imran Tahir. It was a good pick-up, but his other flicked the rope.

  10. Pak 104-3published at 25 overs

    Target 220

I've got so much time for Kagiso Rabada, he's a class act. But he goes too short and too wide and Malik cuts it square for four.

Malik then guides one down to third man and a diving Tahir tries his utmost to cut it off. Sportsmanship from the Pakistan-born South African who signals four to the officials.

An unconvincing flirt with a wide one from Babar ends the over. A good one for Pakistan, nine from it.

I always liked to bat when it was drizzling because the ball skids on and the bowlers don't like to bowl with a wet ball. It's a good time for Pakistan to bat.

  12. Pak 95-3published at 24 overs

    Target 220

Shoaib Malik the new man in. Morkel goes continues to find success going in short. Two from the over.

So does that wicket even things out a bit in this contest? You feel Pakistan are still in the driving seat, especially if it goes the full 50.

They are also just ahead of par, should it rain now.

Morkel has been a revelation for South Africa. He's made Pakistan make so many errors. Just exactly what AB de Villiers wanted. What a brilliant catch for a man not renowned for his fielding.

    Hafeez c Tahir b Morkel 26 (Pak 93-3)

Morne Morkel back into the attack as AB de Villiers looks to pace for a wicket, and the big man doesn't disappoint. He bangs one in short, Hafeez pulls, top edges it and it's a tremendous catch from Tahir running in from fine leg. The leggy is pumped after taking that!

If a wicket falls now, Pakistan go behind the DLS rate. The safe way to tackle it is to always be a touch ahead of it.

  17. Pak 93-2published at 23 overs

    Target 220

Pakistan seem to be playing with a bit more freedom here, Babar drives a couple through the covers for two singles then cracks one square with the full face of the bat for a four through point.

Hafeez slices one to backward point, Duminy slips as he fields - cue the "weheeeeey" chants from the Pakistan fans.

Brilliant from Hafeez - it didn't matter which way the ball was spinning because he got to the pitch of it. It's a real strength of Hafeez's that.

  19. Pak 86-2published at 22 overs

    Hafeez 24, Barbar 18

Ooooh, hello! Hafeez reads one from Tahir, get's forward to the pitch and lofts one straight past the bowler's head for six.

Eight from the over. Pakistan 12 runs ahead of the DLS par score.

On a side note, I wonder who has the best hairband in this tournament - Tahir or Adam Zampa?
